Mr Price Pro - Finals

Julian Wilson has been enjoying the six week break in the World Championship Tour schedule. During the downtime he took a quick jaunt to South Africa where he donned the coloured singlet and won the Mr Price Pro at Ballito on the weekend. Wilson beat fellow 'CT surfer Jordy Wilson, who was also relaxing and taking it easy between top tier contests.

Mr Price Pro - Early Rounds

The surf hasn't been so hot for the early rounds of the Mr Price Pro at Ballito, South Africa. You know, 3-4 feet, bit sideshore, you could take it or leave it. But this is a 6-Star Prime, one of only eight this year, so we figured we may as well run a few shots. Don't expect much, it's bog standard 'QS comp surfing in ordinary waves. I hope we haven't wasted your time.

Anyhoo, the organisers say there's swell coming and that's good news for everyone. See you soon.

Oakley Pro Bali - Finals

It was a comp that defied expectations; the trade winds were kind, the swell consistent, and even those who knew how good it could get were gobsmacked at the quality on the last two days. Parko took the trophy and shot himself back into contention for the world title. He now sits in third.

Oakley Pro Bali - Rounds Four & Five

The swell ebbed and pulsed all day, as did the perfect-10 scores - Josh Kerr got one, Parko got two in the same heat making the Oakley Pro Bali the second contest in a row someone has scored a perfect 20 heat score. There were also a few upsets as both John John and Slater got knoced in their Round 5 heats.

With another, even larger swell, due to arrive the contest should finish in great waves, but for now here are the best shots from yesterday.

Oakley Pro Bali - Round Three

After four laydays today's action at the Oakley Bali Pro came in the shape of a clean six foot swell and a full draw of Round 3 heats. For the most part the surfers followed the script with the big guns blazing advancing into the next round. Only in the last heat of the day did things go awry with title-chasing Jordy Smith going down to Freddy P, the only goofy to win all day.

Oakley Pro Bali - Laydays

There's worse places to be waiting for a swell than Bali. And it ain't just the smoothies and banana jaffles that make the downtime so good, it's the fact that even when there's apparently no waves it's still better than 90% of the time back home.

For the last three days the pros have whiled away their time in the flat Balinese stuff waiting for the next real swell to hit (BTW it's due sometime today).

Volcom Pro Fiji - Layday Cloudbreak

Yesterday was Day 6 of the Volcom Fiji Pro and a layday was called. Those with an eye on their diary will recall that it was this day - Day 6 - last year when that freesurf session went down.

Yesterday's freesurf session at Cloudbreak didn't quite match up in terms of size and significance but it was pretty bloody good nevertheless.

Billabong Rio Pro: Finals Day

And so it came down to this, the last day in the Billabong Rio Pro waiting period. A waiting period that extended either side of a once-a-year Teahupoo swell that saw many epic waves get ridden - including some by Rio Pro wildcard, Ricardo Dos Santos, who threw caution, plus a few frequent flyer points, to the wind jetting from Rio to Tahiti and back in time for his heat.

Around Rio

We're currently in the fifth consecutive layday at the Billabong Rio Pro and if you haven't been filling in those idle hours with Julio Adler's 'Semi Pro Shakedown' then you my friend have been missing out. But perhaps you have your reasons for missing it and if so I'll take your word for it.

Billabong Rio Pro: Round 1

The first round of the Billabong Rio Pro went down in thumping semi-closeouts at the primary venue of Postinho. The shifty, unpredictable lineup caused plenty of upsets with half the top seeds relegated to Round Two.

Pre Rio

Last night a storm front hit the Rio coast hammering the Billabong Rio Pro contest sites. Not surprisingly this morning the organisers have called a layday. Today's conditions are in stark contrast to yesterday when the Top 34 enjoyed a warm up in sunny, crisp three foot beachbreaks just ripe for a hi-fi attack.
