Surf Junkie Club NFTs Mint Tomorrow
"Almost everyone spells it out, saying “en eff tee.” The brave call them “nefts.” The enlightened have never had the word cross their lips."
- The Verge, 'NFTs, explained'
And with that bon mot behind us, let's join the unenlightened.
A month after Wave Riders Club, the world's first surfing NFT, whimpered to a close, and Surf Punks NFT, the world's second surfing NFT, traces the same downward course, comes Surf Junkie Club the world's third surfing NFT which is surely bound to succeed.
Minting for the first round of SJC NFTs happens tomorrow, however it's currently difficult to find out how much they'll mint for as the link on the website is out of order. A quick visit to their Instagram page shows tomorrow's minting as worth 200 Brazilian Reals, or AUD $57. Though that's an introductory price with the second batch costing B$300, or AUD $85.
By comparison, after heavy spruiking by founder Ian Cairns, Wave Riders Club minted at $275 last April, however only 62 of the 5,000 NFTs were sold, sending the price down to $22 before a pulse could no longer be detected.
Of course, NFT purists will tell you the concept has nothing to do with money and is purely about the art. On that score, rather than rendered clip art, SJC NFTs are individually created by renowned Brazilian designer Marcello Serpa, each a rendition of a surfer yet coloured like a macaw.
The club aspect shouldn't be underplayed either, as when you buy an SJC NFT you join a club already attended by economic luminaries such as Donovan Frankenreiter, Carlos Burle, and Bruno Santos. The gang can't wait to meet you.
In other news, this week Facebook reported it would soon exit NFTs, while Sesame Street announced it was entering the NFT market.
Comments
yeah i wont be buying a link to a jpeg on a screen. NFTs are dead.
Thanks for un-enlightening me Stu...!!! :D
so who really gets rich from these?
No-one so far, it seems. Waveriders Club has been a spectacular failure.
Here's the press release, sent out almost one year ago to the day: https://www.prweb.com/releases/2022/3/prweb18586090.htm
Note: Not only has Waveriders Club been closed (website offline, can't seem to find the NFTs for sale any more), but the "global water sports lifestyle media network" of Surfing.com website has also been closed, and the domain name is now for sale (asking price is US$1.9m).
Some people have got rich-ish from the likes of Bored Ape Yacht Club amongst others, or otherwise through trading NFTs, but the vast majority have lost money (including me).
Elon might be interested.
A fool and their money...
hey stu before i connect my wallet and get rugged can you vouch for the team at all?
for those following along at home: you needed to have been whitelisted to mint this first round. i think public mint goes on offer tomoz. seems like 2610/4000 have been minted already.
narrator: no one was following at home
I have NFI what a NFT is.
And don't give a F.
Ctrl Prt Sc
Open Paint
Paste
All sorts of IP or trademarking or watermarking or code but it really doesn't stop the above process.
Now if someone did an NFT of that chick with her fins backward...
OMG, IMHO ROFL at SJC NFT’s. It’s NBD BC NGAF. BTW IRL FFS WGAF LOL. BTW WSL, CS & CT are FKD !!
Are these like shares or something?
Wtf is this all about?
I just wanna join the BFC
bolt on the forehead club
AFE.
Heres what NFT's are
I guess for true digital art they have a place but otherwise pretty silly.
I guess there is an argument you can screen shot or copy, but there is also an argument that people value true authenticity especially for resale value. (you generally get some proof of authenticity)
&t=1stulip season...NFT were always going to fail. Pretty funny to have watched the stupidity.
I bought 5 for $1k and sold them a week later for $5k. it was a quick turnaround and relied on the bigger fool theory..that time I won a little.
Sounds legit.
as legit as getting 75% staking rewards on digital assets...

That pic looks like me whenever I forget I still need sunscreen in winter.
There is proof of authenticity with NFTs but like all things digital there is a site where I can generate proof of authenticity for a fake. This is also stored on a ledger. Worse is what is the art even worth? I can use Dalle to generate any form of art in 10secs. I can generate 100 variations in 30mins. Tough one with art and implied values.
Slight improvement on investing in Madoff because you will always have a jpeg to cherish
Sell someone something of no purpose and say it has value cause you said it does. The ultimate sales model.
Our 10 year old grom has just printed off 20 full colour prints .
Reckons he's gonna put them up online tomorrow for $4.99 plus postage .
The future is in good hands !
I don't really understand the NFT thing but does that fact that the artwork is shit not affect the value? or is that not relevant...who would want to buy this
The art has almost nothing to do with it. Perhaps you'd say it adds novelty value at best.
NFTs arose in a weird symbiosis between the art, investing, and finance worlds, ostensibly as a means to validate the originality of artworks, but they've become bastardised over time - a very short period of time - so the investing and finance aspects are far more important. Basically, people are trying to create something, anything, that's tradeable - that's the most important aspect.
The 'art' isn't what gives the NFT its worth. Rather it's the exclusivity and the desire of other people to get in early if they anticipate the price will go up, when they can trade it for more than they bought it.
I agree there have been many projects that are a load of shit but there is a place for NFT's.
Artists have another revenue stream and to say it's not about the art I disagree.
Check https://www.artblocks.io/collections/presents/projects Everyone
NFT's prove ownership and that proof is only as good as the blockchain they are stored on. Ethereum having more value due to it's security.
There is web software that can be purchased by buying a NFT and connecting your wallet which holds the NFT you have access to the software. https://triptcip.com
I think it's a great way for artists to make money directly for themselves instead of giving large portions to major labels or distributors.
In the age of the internet there is literally nothing stopping artists selling directly to the public. You know that thing called a website? lmao Grifters gonna grift
No need for change we have google and the website.
No need for cars we have horses.
Probably the dumbest comment I've seen on the Internet in a while.
Yep, well done.
Firstly someone has to pay the gas fees to miners, secondly a commission to a NFT marketplace which is a website. So you have just added 2 middlemen, plus you are using a NFT WEBSITE to sell them. Take your grift somewhere else lmao
yeah god those two middlemen to a transaction is so annoying. i much prefer the traditional way of transacting that requires 0 middlemen from back when i minted my own gold shekels and tried really hard to convince vendors to accept them.
Yeah i am minting my own shekels to buy a link to a jpeg that can be right clicked and copied on a blockchain/marketplace that may or may not exist in the future. Sounds extremely intelligent and not a grift at all.
grift deez nuts, my guy
all the best with your current and future grifts lmao
Ocean Beach, the point of art isn’t to be pretty, it’s about evoking emotions previously dormant, even the negative ones
Like the original NFT, goatse
