Petition: Reject Corralejo Pier Expansion
Straight from Change.org:
As it is well known, the expansion of the Corralejo dock will lead to the direct disappearance of 2 well-known and appreciated spots Punta Elena and El Muelle, and it is very likely that it will have a very serious impact on the wave of Lobos, the second longest right of Europe.
The project for the new port of Corralejo threatens to destroy the already fragile balance of the area by multiplying maritime traffic, adding noise, chemical and waste pollution to an already over-exploited area and above all devaluing what is most beautiful, our biodiversity.
It puts at risk multiple sports areas for the practice of surfing, an activity that generates profit at the labor level in the local community.
The development for which our islands must bet is one that is responsible with the environment, sustainable in the long term, maintaining the Canarian culture and tradition and all its incentives.
Let's promote ecotourism, the discovery of our nature to the world, protecting it for posterity.
#NOALPUERTODECORRALEJO
The time has come when all of us, united, have to stop this monstrous project.

Always wanted to travel to the Canaries (Lobos looks like a great wave) but it's always been too difficult from Australia.
I did a few weeks there as a young bloke and got some good waves.
It's also a fascinating place - a mix of Spain and Morocco (if you steer clear of the British resort towns), with mad geography. And, bizarrely, the first place in the world I ever saw snow.
Spent a lot of time there in the 90's when I lived in the UK and Europe and had a Tinerfeña girlfriend/ fiancée. Had a fantastic time, surfing was tough, the locals were aholes
"Second longest"? What righthander is longer than Lobos?
woohoo. I know the answer to this one but cannot tell. In fact, I know 4+ longer better rights in Europe than Lobos. Smug little me is so pleased with himself. Mind you, the others are bloody cold, empty, and way more fickle. So, Lobos likely wins.
Lol
They should concrete over every break in the Canaries so those angry Little Rock throwing Umpa Loompas go without. Reclaim the reefs with landfill, cover them with astroturf and turn them all into a golf course for Asian tourists.
Heh, yes. I forgot to add that Canary Islands locals are easily the worst I've come across.
they are up there with the Tamarind twats
I concur on the locals in popular spots but had an amazing time surfing out of the way spots when travelling with a local.
I spent 5 months in the Canaries back in early 2000's in a tent in Lanzarote. It's insane and so many waves. There are some serious waves on consequence. I saw El Quemao at 10-12 feet do a very impressive impression of Pipeline. I camped on Lobos alone for 3 days and surfed through the full lifecycle of a solid swell. Everyone came by boat or ferry for the day would disappear in the afternoon so I got to surf it alone. Such sweet memories of endless waves under the shadow of the barren volcano. It was like surfing on the moon.
Sounds amazing.
Lots of epic waves on that stretch, sorry to see some of them go.
It was busy 20 + years ago, good waves and good times a plenty......
If I'm honest, there are a few places here that could do with some localism Canarias style. Sadly lacking
Do we have any examples of Canarian localism? Does it beat ripping the rear door off a perp's rusty HR wagon and writing nice wax messages all over the windows?
Tenerife was our winter family getaway before we moved to ozz.
The trade of a family Holliday to las americas was a early surf before the locals woke up.
Cheap destination from the UK if you can shut your eyes to the barmy army Brits abroad goons.
Fortunate to go to lobos in the 80s but still got buzzed by locals in a outboard rubber dingy.
Sad that these spots do get raped by cashed up developers.
It seems to me mugof that you have never dealt with these type of locals or you have aspirations to become one.
Lived there, too old now
