Watch: Pentacoastal B-Sides
Two years of filming for one week of attention. Regardless of how good the finished product is, the ratio of effort to reward for surf films is horribly skewed.
So thank heavens for the B-Sides, the almost clips, rescued from the cutting-room floor to prolong the lifespan of a project - in this case Wade Goodall and Shane Fletcher's Pentacoastal.
So here we have Wade, Dane Reynolds, Harry Bryant, and Dylan Graves in Indonesia. Good surfing, but apparently not good enough.

That first turn from Dane - so smooth.
You got it right Stu. I was listening to Wade talk about the process and how arduous, expensive and time consuming it is. Feels like a lot considering it's something put out for free and will escape the collective consciousness after a few weeks.
Don't get me wrong, thanks to the guys for doing it, fantastic film. I myself wouldn't have minded being flown around the globe to get clips, but how do companies justify these projects?
I guess exposure is the reason, but exposure is a tricky beast to quantify.
For comparison, 'Pentecoastal' has been viewed 360K times on YouTube, while Willem Powerfish has surpassed that more than ten times in the past year for doing nothing more than running around in a gimp mask, accosting strangers, and going fishing. He's been viewed over 12M times and is at the point where he's giving away boats and cars on his YouTube channel.

Modern metrics, eh?
Yeah its funny hey. Makes you realise not many people aside from a few surfers care about these things. I don't know how most of these brands get on really. Despite the current economics I guess there's still a few coins in the coffers to splash on trips / projects like these. I'd imagine they are saving a fair bit in 2020
That power fish fat Fck just goes to show you what Fcking trash the world watches on YouTube these days. What a complete and utter waste of space. It blows my mind how dumb our world really is becoming thanks to social media sites allowing idiots to publish a waste of space video of themselves doing Fck all that actually contributes to society or making this world a better place for all. It scares me where our world is going.
That just prompted me to watch 'Pentacoastal' in it's entirety.
Glad I did! Just a really good, no bullshit, pumping waves, rad surfing surf flick.
The SA and P-Pass B-Side sessions should be a cracker...
