Watch: Cult of Freedom // The Creed Part
The last time I saw Creed McTaggart in the flesh he was camped out with fellow Wash bandmates in my backyard. That was in Austinmer, ten months ago.
Creedo didn’t talk a whole lot about surfing. Music and belly sliding on mats were the more memorable topics covered between sips of Coopers Pale on the lawn.
Since co-starring with Shaun Manners in a punchy short, riding Matt Manners’ shapes (exceptionally well!), there hadn’t been a lot of Candy’s ocean activities floating about on the social feeds. It seemed life had been all touring and pressing Wash records.
It's easy to forget that just 'cos it doesn’t slide down your screen, doesn’t mean it isn’t happening. Creed’s been silently slipping out on trips and stacking rides for Globe and Joe G’s Cult Of Freedom series. Now it’s out and the fanfare’s flowing.
Did absence make the heart grow fonder? Or is he just a really fucking great surfer? A bit of both, I believe.
There’s been buzz building around earlier thruster silhouettes. I’ve felt it myself, even more so since Creedo dropped a few teaser rides from the Fun Boys second instalment. Now, after spinning his section, I’ve been window shopping for my own lengthier three fin. Trend hopping? Unashamedly!
It ain’t all nooners and wallet tossing, Creed proves he’s still happy to take it above the lip, in a big way, though his rail work really is the highlight here (partnered with that 6’1 Dahlberg). Controlled aggression is a charming trait of Creed’s, in the water and on stage.
Soundtrack? Stu tells me he’s not a fan of the live take of Dragon's 'Rain' for the Indo section. I can dig it, and having a bit of background in sync licensing I’d say the usage price tag would’ve been a lot lighter on Globe’s bottom line. Then you’ve got MC5, energetic, powerful, complementary for Creed’s West Oz assault.
How does it match up with Taj’s part? Does it exceed? I believe so. Am I biased? Of course.
Now dive in, reconnect with an old mate.

Goes alright in the ocean, but what's he like in a wavepool?
I saw those NP waves from the water and either my memory is playing tricks or they missed his best one.
Fucken epic
That was sick.
I loved the live cut of Rain. suited it so well.
Yeah that was good.........throw in a couple of wipe outs and its real.
Great surfer!
Epic
I reckon Creed smokes winny red's!
I have no idea what the guy writing the intro said though,
Millennial code words, have fun with that. Stunet stop outsourcing!
were the nineties that good ?
Say g'day to Rick, LD.
You'll be seeing a bit more of him around these parts.
But don't worry, I expect he'll be a jaded ol' walrus within the month.
Creed's clip has done more traffic in 6 days than Taj's did in 6 months. That might answer your question.
The live version of Rain? Nuh, live is for those who are there, studio is for everything else and unless the band has a 6'4" lead singer named Jeffrey with a stage name Joey then never the twain shall meet.
Besides they fucked up that opening synth sound. Best part of the song.
The NP angle looking across the bay from Gracetown is incredible. Think it was the first wave where he pulls in then fades when he comes out.....that's the chicken skin.
Seen the ramones at the b d o in 94 .
The only one I went to.
I can listen to an album and still picture them on stage.
Amazing,
So is Creed, which by the way if you ever want any nineties stories
I have plenty.
Very happy to receive any stories, LD, whether they be from the 90s or just last week.

When a 9:30min clip feels like finishes in a couple of minutes, you know it's good. And in today's level of clip saturation you know it's real good.
Bullshit..that was so good... hot carves..i hate air moves
but like watching Creed do them
Marc Hunter would dig it.
Rocking clip, including the live song and even the millennial code words. ha ha...

Hahahah!!! too funny. I was thinking the same...and yes the 90's were very good. Fuck the guy surfs good. I like to see footage of whole waves surfed...particularly when they are fucking good waves. This clip was all that. Hats off to Creed for keeping it real.
