Watch: Griffin Colapinto // Volume 2

First up I gotta pay respect to Griffin Colapinto's lackadaisical attitude. Start of the year he began making a series of videos capturing his time on the tour, and 'Volume 1' took in the Australian leg. Here we have 'Volume 2' which is J'Bay, and I'll assume ol' Griff just couldn't be arsed making videos for Rio and Bali. Which is fair enough, it's not like the internet is suffering a shortage of surf clips. The three month lag between recording and release - an eternity in today's online world - must also be admired.

Secondly, and most noticeably, is that Griff, the hottest surfer to come out of California in years, rides a borrowed board. Well, a hand-me-down board to be precise, handed down from Kolohe Andino. Which seems quaint when you hear of the thirty-board quivers thrown at the pros each year.

It's a longer clip, clocks in around fifteen minutes, and runs contrary to the jackammer blast of shorter online clips. It's slower, has a little bit of voiceover to add to the mood, and a fine choice of tunes. All up it's a worthy way to unwind and while away a quarter-hour.

Cool clip, good tunes too.
South Africa is an incredible place, id love to spend a fair bit of time there in the future.
When the lion starts roaring it’s almost like he’s telling his old man to be quiet!

Earlier in the year I went to have a look at the Snapper rocks CT event. The day I was there was raining and the surf was average. The surfing was cool enough , but it gets old pretty quickly watching other people surf when you’re stuck on the beach .

A couple of hours and a few slow heats into it and I was sitting on this rock , contemplating just how long it takes for a hemorrhoid to develop , when young Griffin Colapinto arrived on the scene . A group of scantily dressed young Brazilian ladies noticed him appear and started yelling out to him and saying how hot he was . Young Colapinto played it cool and ignored them , signing autographs with his back turned to them .

This drove the Brazzo girls nuts and they started yelling louder . And louder . And louder. Till they couldn’t possibly make anymore noise than they were.

Then , and only then , did young Colapinto turn and give them a sly smile and a nod of the head before nonchalantly walking over as they creamed their corn.

I sat heavily on my wet rock with my emerging hemorrhoids and realised that the Gold Coast is no country for old men.*

* As if baby !

I’ve still got it , yeah !!

Very stylish and radical young surfer who I really enjoy watching more than any of the current crop. His brother isn't bad either.

Smooth, fast, radical.

Griff is all that, and I don't know why, but I still can't get excited about him.
