Episode 5 of Seabass' web series is a bit looser than past instalments. Not crazier, just less of a storyline, less 'coherence', not that it really matters 'cause you're here for the surfing and there ain't no shift in that regard. Seabass even throws in some of his wheely airs for good measure.

Yeah man. How good are these pros? They're just out there ripping shit and goin' off everywhere they go blowin stupid kooks outta the water with radical high performance charisma, just cuttin' sick and (thank god) making movies of themselves at the same time. And the equipment!! I mean, any surfer who does'nt have 10 boards & a jet ski in his arsenal is obviously just a time and wave wasting arsehole. More than ever before the world needs more pro's out there just shredding to the max and grinning like total winners into the lens. Legends.

Who's the best surfer you ever shared a line up with ?

One time , long ago , I was out at Kirra in pretty average conditions having a pretty cool time.

As I was paddling back up against the sweep I saw this fella cruising down the line on , staying high with lots of speed but not doing much else. As he came closer he faded down the face then leans into the type of bottom turn that I wouldn't have thought was possible.

Grabbing the outside rail and getting so low that his arse must have been submerged he then pivoted into the lip and fucking destroyed it.

Fins out , the whole bottom of his board visible as I paddled over the back .

The most memorable part was the sound .

WHACK !

You would have heard it from the beach , no dramas.

I'd just seen Occy obliterate a lip in the flesh and it changed my opinion on what was possible instantly.

That's why it's good to have people do nothing but surf , surf , surf till it's occupying 99 percent of their brain.

If Occy hadn't been paid to surf then he would've been sidetracked into earning a living in his late teens. Sure the world would have been better off to the tune of one semi capable brickies labourer , but we'd have lost one of the greatest surfers of all time to a forty hour week and the pokies at Northies.

So until the dole makes a good come back then pro surfing will have to fill the void of keeping great surfers in the water to inspire us.

But.....I could just as easily mount an argument stating that the joy of surfing ain't dependent on continuous progression or that progression still occurs without pro surfing . So who knows ?

That's a good story Blowin, I could visualise it in my mind. Don't worry, pro surfing is seriously booming and is about to go into drone-assisted hyperdrive.

Or you could also mount an argument that pro surfers are the dancing bears that attract more people to the circus. The irony of course is that they're well paid bears and can afford to bail on the waves they sold out leaving the rest of us to fight increasing crowds.

For sure , NBB.

Can't see too many Pros being rich enough to bail on the crowds though.

I've seen more than a few pros getting frustrated and burnt in busy line ups.

See all that lovely footage of Rob Machado soulfully tearing the bag out at Uluwatu ?

I sat next to him for 45 minutes with neither of us getting a wave in that time quite recently.

He had the patented and immutable stoner grin plastered across his face right up until he finally caught a wave and was cooked by a Euro in booties and a neoprene hat....then he was just another bitter face in the line up.

He came good but it was there for all to see. He was over it.

Maybe the most satisfying- but also the most disturbing - was watching Dingo Morrison getting burnt repeatedly out at Desert Point.

No one is spared.

Ha ha ,luv the dancing bears/circus line mate and yeh it's frustrating dealing with a mob.Now it's not so much where I go but when, trying to get a wave between the frothing hordes.

Dingo got burnt by some Israeli guy who surfs as good as most orstralians and where he live they don't even have any surf. They just watch kelly slater videos and practice with jet skis until they go on holidays.

Meet Seabass surfing in Portugal with my family last year and without doubt
he is the coolest, nicest and freindliest pro surfer in the universe.
Big fans in my house.
Keep him on tour forever along with Mikey Wright and Mason Ho drop the
swimming pool event and pro surfing would be a better place.
