Five minutes out to sea - video

Tim Bonython recently spent a Sunday morning bouncing around on the back of a ski squinting into the sun while getting slowly drenched in spray. It sounds like no way to spend the day of rest, but with a camera slung over his shoulder ol' Tim wouldn't have it any other way.

Here's the fruits of his labour.

And for the morbidly curious the outcome of Nathan Bartlett's late spin - see yesterday's Wave Of The Day - can be viewed at the two minute mark.

Is there a ghost in the machine? Watch carefully on the wave after Ryan Hipwood's, at 2.50 (no one catches it). At 2.59/3.00 look closely at the bottom of the wave, as the foam ball gathers momentum to explode out of the tunnel, you will see for a second what looks like a body boarder about to be fired out, only to disappear as if exiting through the bottom of the wave... Pause during the frames from 3.00 to 3.01 and there he is. A trick of the light I expect. Nice short Tim!

Wow, I'm going out on a limb here and saying its some of the best footage and critical surfing I've ever seen. Those guys are on such an elevated level making those beyond critical drops on those monsters!!!!! Felt like I was there (thank Christ I wasn't!) Note: (Im not a big wave expert!!) look how much easier the guy on the big board gets in!! Really obvious. Keep em coming crew
