Puerto gets the green light - video
The first stop of the 2017 Big Wave Tour, the Puerto Escondido Challenge, has been given the green light by Mike Parsons, WSL Big Wave Tour Commissioner The first heat will hit the water at 9am local time (10pm AEST).
"We have made the official call and will start on Monday, July 31 at 7:00 a.m. local time," said Parsons "We have been closely tracking the conditions and have determined that Monday will be the peak of swell and when we will see the biggest surf.
This will be the second BWT event at Mainland Mexico's Puerto Escondido. Last year's inaugural event was won by Twiggy Baker - see video below.
Also, Jamie MItchell, who injured himself at Puerto three weeks ago has said that he'll surf. The contestants and their forst round heats are as follows:
