Welcome to the April Maldives Surf Report brought to you by World Surfaris and curated by Richard Kotch at Hudhuranfushi. At the beginning of each month during the winter surf season Rich will update swell conditions as well as bring you the best photos.

Following text and photos by Richard Kotch:

April has been a slightly bigger/better version of March here at Hudhuranfushi in the Maldives. The month started with a couple weeks of the typical Maldivian staple: glassy 3-4ft short period swell from the south-east with light winds and beautiful weather.

By the 12th we started to feel a bit more west in the wind coupled with a stronger pulse of swell from the south/south-east. Lohis was still super fun, but the rights of Cokes, Sultans and Jails really came into their own with the stronger offshores adding a bit of texture to the swell and some space in the tube.

Our guests seemed to get really lucky, scoring good sessions at all the primo spots with very few others in the water. Highlight of the month for me was surfing perfect 4ft jails on the 14th with our guests and just three other guys on the water. Sure it wasn’t the most challenging waves you could surf, but taking off and looking down an emerald wall stretching in front of you for a hundred metres or so was the session of dreams for our guests.

Good times!

PS: May has started in a magical manner – see the last shot of this selection.
