The More Things Change - video
When Gerry Lopez first surfed Uluwatu in 1974, the fabled Balinese wave was magical, empty and pristine. Gerry returned to Uluwatu 40 years later to find it bustling, developed and profoundly changed. After a week of surfing and yoga, however, Gerry tapped into a spirit of place that continues to endure.
In recent years, booming popularity has placed huge environmental pressure on the Uluwatu area. Project Clean Uluwatu is working to ease this pressure and restore the area’s pristine nature. Please donate to help keep this iconic place sacred and intact for locals and visitors alike: http://swllnt.com/2kNgxqP

These guys look to be doing great work.
Man, if i can be surfing like that at 66 I'd be pretty chuffed.
Lopez is one Cool Cat.
Theres a good read from Lopez on Baliwaves 2007
The Man Peter Mcabe Surfing Legend.
Agree with the above, I think he's a true inspiration. Really good to see what they're doing to clean up the mess and I hope it's the start for a cleaner Ulu's and that it spreads outwards. On another note and only seeing it briefly, it looks like Machado's board has a bottom/rail design similar to Greenough's one that he and Rasta were trialing a few years ago, and that has gone quiet since.
There's a Buddhist expression: "When the student is ready the teacher arrives." I had a poster of Gerry at Pipe when I was 17 and he was 22. He was, is and will ever be a master.
Agree with all of the above. A legend and inspiration. Highly recommend his book.
