Fuck, and I thought I had an idealic, misspent youth;
and I thought I could surf too;
until I just saw an 11 year old trump my hand with straight Aces.

I think it's time for my kids to swap schools.

Good luck to the kid but I have never been a fan of promoting children as potential champions. There is always too far to go, too many hurdles and the publicity at age never does any good. Surfing needs to take a look at how other professional sports handle their junior talents and set some guidelines.

Agreed BB...its just as easy to foresee this kid as a spoilt little brat with no respect and no future life skills as it is to see him become a champion. We don't know his actual situation and support network but as a general rule these days these kids don't respect the line up or their place in it...this feeds into their principles in life. I'm glad I grew up in the era I did...what I learnt in the water as a grom has held me in good stead in life. These days it's sponno's, clips and take what you want...etc etc

Yes Joe Engle is a champ who comes to mind who didn't cope with the system too well and it dropped him like a hot spud. AFL has come a long way with this.

In Bali he's gonna have his competition cut out for him.. heaps of little indo groms , pros and whatever's doing what they like. I'm not saying it doesn't happen here , it's just there is more for them than a career in the spot light if they fall short of their's and their sponsors expectations over here. As far as education goes well good luck, I know what i'd be doing as a well paid grom when the swell is on the pump, To many distractions. Have fun kid enjoy the ride!

As for a a pop out clip, pretty boring, same old, same old, yes he drops & gets in the shade, but what else, but some young kid who has a capture on him. Seen the same at the local break. No photog , no capture. more smiles to those around they surf with, both from & towards those that deserve it.

If this little fellow starts watching Taylor Knox DVD's, he would gain the knowledge of rail to rail at speed and his surfing would look super. Good starting point and dam enviable training grounds.
