A stunning film about chasing waves on the beautiful Norfolk Island by Spencer Frost. From the lush green pine forests to crystal clear turquoise waters.
No doubt about it sure is a beautiful spot.Nice film.

Why is it that all the cool guys drink Corona?
...not that I'm saying that modern longboarding is cool.

Would NZ be in the way of any good S - SE swells or is the distance in between fat to produce swell of its own?
thermalbenTuesday, 27 Sep 2016 at 1:59pm
New Zealand does technically block SE swells though Norfolk is rarely lacking swell as its SW thru' S swell window is quite open. Norfolk also has an E swell window though most of the waves are on its southern coast.

Oh there's a couple of gems there..... And it has 2 distinct swell seasons, winter swells - the same that light up cloudbreak, and cyclone season - the storms right out around 160 to 170w.... It can also believe it or not get some funky little n to nw west swells during cyclone season - nothing outrageous - just "back of the storm" stuff pending on storms path.

Nick, just fairly standard winter Tasman fronts will do the job, the kind that produce 4-5ft S swells in Sydney would be unreal for Norfolk. And they're plentiful.
Bigger swells open up some other lesser surfed spots on the Island, nothing A-grade but plenty of really good, fun waves.

A mate of mine from work has a thing for islands, and each year takes her annual leave to various islands around the world. She went to Norfolk last year and declared it the strangest place she's ever been, though she couldn't really say why. I'd love to check it out!
