A word about Ferg - video
Since he missed out on a seat in Ireland's general election, Fergal Smith has seemingly dissappeared. All social media transmission has ceased and you've gotta think that's just the way he likes it. If you watched Ferg's 25 part 'Growing' series you'll know he's never more at home then tending to his vegetables or hucking himself over another deep green ledge.
Not for the limelight is he, yet Ferg ain't easily forgotten. This video recently surfaced, some waves have been seen before, some haven't, yet even the reruns are worth your while.
Hey up to a fearless surfer and upright fella.

Maaannnn i could watch this all day.
So sick
Epic...some very serious pull ins...cold and heavy those waves!
So good... these irish lads know how to capture the mood..
Mickey Smith footage of Ferg; as good as it gets. And slow motion somehow worked perfectly.
Can't speak highly enough of Ferg. A charger; modest yet outspoken; principled; intelligent. It would be interesting to see him at Teahupo'o alongside the WCT pros
(I just came in from a local session in heavy, tricky, highly textured (i.e. choppy as fuq) 6ft surf. Freezing cold too, I thought (11C water, 8C air). Then I watch this video and realise what a pathetic wimp, and generally useless surfer, I am)
that was funny as fuq!
Shared a room together in tahiti a few years back. He'd wait patiently for bombs, like hours, then get an amazing one. Seriously well regarded over there. I think he's been off the radar due to daddy day care duties and his passion for his broccoli patch. We still chat a bit. He can't be bothered chasing exposure and money, but is still surfing.
Awesome footage, awesome sound track, great editing - working perfectly together.
All of the above. Incredible!!
How good would this guy go in Indo or Cloud Break? Legendary.
Island Bay, same here man. This was an awesome vid but when I watch stuff like that I realise how inadequate I am as a surfer sometimes.
Total respect, can't say it any other way.
I think Clay Marzo needs a 1mm wettie top and a visit to Ferg.
That is the most beautiful surf clip I have ever seen, I've watched it 5 times in a row. Whatever the filmaker is being paid its not enough... Well done and keep them coming!
Yeah I just watched it again as well.
As heavy as it gets, waves, weather and conditions. Could never imagine pulling into those endlessly dark heavy slabs, so crazy.
Google Dark Side of the lens by Micky Smith. It's unbeleivable
