Mistakes made are lessons learned - video
The Irish Tow Surf Rescue Team are the guardian angels of the Eire coastline. In Mullaghmore, the Cliffs of Mohir, and Rileys, the Irish have three legit world class waves, each with a heightened capacity to maim. In response to a raft of injuries local surfer Pete Conroy started up the rescue team, liasing with coastguards, installing defibrillators in nearby hotels, and training tow safety teams in the latest methods.
"One of things you realise in medicine is that your first fifteen minutes are your most significant," says Terry Farrell, Medical Director for the Big Wave Tour, emphasising how crucial a quick respose team is.
It's worth a watch, even for Aussie surfers who'll likely never grace the aforementioned waves.
