Jamie O surfs Puerto Escondido at night - video
"Life doesn't stop when the sun goes down."
Well, no, it doesn't, in fact there are many things to do at night, such as read, go to the movies, visit a restaurant, or just sit back in a jason recliner and scarf cheese toasties. All require the person to be more or less alive.
But if your only notion of living is surfing then maybe night time is a bummer. Fortunately the good folk at Lume Cube have, ah, seen the light, so now you can surf right through the night - or at least the late evening - thanks to their little hand held light boxes.
I'm sure you have plenty of questions, such as, how do I hold both my GoPro camera and my Lume Cube?
Well, the Lume Cube mounts to a GoPro so you've got all the equipment you need for a session in one unit.
Another question might be, who the fuck would want one of these?
Good question, I'm glad you asked. Though the 1600+ people who chipped into their Kickstarter fund are in a better position to answer it.
Lume Cubes start at $80 and are available here.

You would score an empty line up...heart would be pumping seeing the ocean in those elements...
It attaches to a Go Pro but they don't show us the Go pro footy? That doesn't provide much confidence.
I've surfed at night a few times and I reckon a small focussed beam does bugger all to help, there's just to much happening elsewhere to be able to surf freely. You need flood lights like Keramas.
Even the flood lights at keramas are hard. I've done it once and it was not easy. They light it up perfectly for the people watching on the shore but when you are out there you can't see the waves approaching until the last second and when you are riding the wave you still cant see shit. You are just feeling your way across the wave Add to that when you look into shore to get your bearings you are blinded by the lihgts.
It would be lovely. 100 surfers on the superbank at night. It would be just like the Dance Of Sugar Plum Fairy in Fantasia.
Nice arty clip. Might need a larger torch at night to see what marine species is swimming under me and around me. JO rips 24/7.
Perhaps you could replace the go pro and the mini light atop it with an all round bigger more powerful hand held light? Or what about a waterproof torch mounted on a helmet?
Jamie O'Brian hot surfer. Unfortunately over the years has had to lower himself to doing cheap stunts to get exposure in order to keep sponsors.
Helps being towed in, wonder if the ski had special spotties mounted.
Yep Jamie may have Balls of Steel
But he has become
Fame Whore
I've occy strapped a couple of dolphin torches to my bodyboard to catch a night time high tide swell at a local reef. Even with a bit of moonlight and a nearby streetlight as well I still couldn't see the waves coming until they were just about on top of me. All good once riding a wave until I wiped out and my dolphin torches floated out into the channel.
Glow down in turtletown clowns. Gold Coast used to be turtle rookery when I was a grommet, all beaches were nesting beaches. 100 skegz poncin' around to shark radio FM with strobe-lightIing disco ball dancefloor will no doubt spell an end to' endangered' stressed nocturnal species. Live and let Live(Surf just Surf)Feel the Force or anything! Simply say no...to more useless stuff! Now a whole race of Metroskegz preprogrammed to become more selfish and shitfull ,hellbent on destroying blue planet for sake of 5 minutes of airtime. Not on my watch! Hooroo !
Got deck grip still wax's up? Anyhow some dude was talking about his shark repellant surf wax on Saturday morning? Some crew are tripping
Can't help wondering what the barrel would look like at night with that light on the inside.
So it seems these people have invented a hand held light emitting device that appears to be housed within some kind of container that is resistant to penetration by water .
Game changing genius. Like so many incredible inventions, when you see it you wonder why no one thought of it sooner.
Hooray obrien riding yet another barrel, this time to gay night nightclub music holding what appears to be a torch in the shape of 2 testicles
