Northern Sumatra - photos

Swellnet Dispatch

Early season Indonesia was steady, few mid-range swells, few small spells, however the intensity has ramped up the last three weeks. A string of serious swells, the most recent being a 10-12 foot swell that hit yesterday, had crew on the ground reaching for the longer boards and seeking out the spots that could handle the increased energy.

Charlie Cullen is the camp photographer at Aura Surf Resort in Northern Sumatra and he's been all over the recent spate of swells. Here's a small selection of shots from neighbouring breaks.

I went here quite a long time ago now, before the camps. Camped on the island. It's a powerful wave. With the right swell direction its great. Broke my whole quiver haha. Cool to see a photos of it and see it is still powering and providing fun (and maybe jangling a few nerves). Memoriessssssss.

ps. no bikinis

Solid ! goin to Lombok in 20 days hope the swell is on as last time I was there(3+yrs ago) it pumped when the swell really got up, none of the Euros took it on above 4ft either which meant it was very sparse in the line up! been some GR8 waves here in prep for some juice to come in INDO!
