That's a soft-top, not a traditional 'log'. JOB's a freak!

I ride one of those .. Not as well as this ! .. But .. Is he surfing that wave or surviving it ?
Can't help going back to Tom Curran at J Bay circa 86 ? I know it's an eon ago but I keep going back to it .. California slack and flow with some Aussie tear. Not sure there's ever been a better mix.

Stu, Gary's going to try and shelve his double entendres as much as possible (wink wink) here to query your caption.
Is a wave like Pipe where the minutiae of board design really comes into play? Or is it more a test of positioning, wave reading, and general surfing skill?
Gary would think that the minutiae of board design actually mattered more at a wave that throws up a variety of sections steep and flat, bringing all the features of the board into play.
Or is my understanding of board design not as elite as my tanning regime?

You seen some of those specialised Pipe weapons, G? Incredibly sleek with long, pulled tails - no this isn't leading anywhere - and a gentle foil throughout. Shaped for no other wave.
And then you have that rotund green thing that JOB rides poking fun at the precision of those boards.
Yeah, positioning, wave reading, and general surfing skill, absolutely come into the equation. The fact only JOB can pull it off underlines that point; his extraordinary skill makes up for the ultra-ordinary board design of that green log.

Thanks for clarifying, Stu.
Gary would like to think of himself as a bit of a Pipe Master in his extracurricular activities, but has never surfed there nor seen the tools of the trade. Nice insights

Looking back I think that was all a set up for more double entendres.
