Caressed by the tail - photos
Though it didn't get huge, the recent swell in the southern states had a lot of staying power. For over 48 hours it plugged away, rounding headlands and peeling off into the distance, all the while brushed by a user friendly northerly wind.
For a coastline where one day wonders are commonplace, where conditions are cut short by either a dropping swell or raging wind, the kick in the tail made this swell event a rare one. Not unique, it's certainly happened before, but special enough for those who scored to recall it with an inward grin.
Judy Scanlon fought flu and surgery to set up her rig amongst the Torquay heathland. And though she ached, Judy returned home smiling.

I'm with you here, Stu.
When the storm formed, I admired its length and girth and thought "you really don't see one with those dimensions all that often", and I spend a lot of time on the interwebs, let me tell you.
I saw it lining up at the entrance to Bass Straight and I thought 'there's no way it's all going to fit in there', but blow me down it slid in without any problems and has shown some exceptional staying power.
Sure when up close it wasn't the biggest I've seen, but it sure managed to penetrate right into some hard to reach places and left a lot of smiling faces in its wake.
And here's me thinking I'm about to read a Gary G post free of double entendres. Thanks for keeping the faith with the last paragraph.
Gary walked into a bar and asked the barman for a double entendre, so he gave me one.
When I was a young 'un in the UK I was very ill in hospital and Gary Glitter actually came to visit me. I was touched.
Boom Boom!
We were all touched, one way or another
Judy does some fine work, have some of her pics on my wall, yep the swell has lasted and this morning the coast had way less crew, its been a big week
winkipop, if ya could pull your finger out.
Stu - "Though it didn't get huge" - Could you make a call to RCJ and ask him how big it was - he surfed a southern state break . Never mind doing research.
What is huge in Stu's world?
I don't even get out of bed for less than 50 Garys.
Impeccable researching.
