Bombs and barrels at Peahi yesterday - video

Swellnet Dispatch

With the greater part of the surfing world absorbed in the Eddie Aikau brouhaha, yesterday's session at Peahi was always gonna be a tad subdued. But despite this the regulars were still present, such as the Xensr crew, who were stuffed in the jungle and first to the 'net with their footage.

Shane Dorian also made a dash to Maui and was out on the apex when the first real sets approached. The thinned out crowd also played into the hands of guys like Ulladulla grom Russell Bierke who's putting in serious time at Peahi this season and scored a few bombs yesterday. See the first two waves for Russ' effort.

Wow, I hurt my neck a bit bodysurfing 3' the other day. It's not hard to imagine the force he would have hit the water with.

Dorian is the master out there. Wave selection is key to that I reckon, and he knows exactly which waves to paddle for.

Jaws and Mavericks are the only 2 big wave spots that excite me to watch. Serious gonads

Dorian's pit was amazing!! From 2ft anywhere to the biggest Jaws, he's got to be the greatest all round surfer to have ever paddled a surfboard I reckon........

Yep well said Barley. I reckon young Russell Bierke (however you spell his last name) in time could be anything if he chooses to keep going full steam ahead. Although I haven't seen him surf much "small" stuff :)

Agree rabbits. From 5'2 boards (great video) to 10'2 boards master. Watched dorian from the point go left and get pitted at waimea on a code blue swell in the 97/98 winter before he was a known charger then his outter reef performances now just next level mad man.

Russel Bierke was out the last swell as well born in the islands I believe.

I believe Bierke could be the next big thing in those type of waves especially out
of Australia. He is only 17 odd. I watched him surf out very big pipe last month
and he took some seriously heavy big waves and surfed pretty darn GOOD.
