Great footage. Waves look so much fun. Not so much the crowds though.

I call it Broken Heart not Broken Head, cause that's how you feel after dealing with that crowd.

Looked pretty average I thought. Beautiful, clear water, but average waves really.

Of course it might be different if I was there with only a couple of mates...

Are crowds like that a standard thing Freeride ?

Or is that a Chrissy holidays bonus pack ?

It was pumping at one stage in September school holidays just gone and the crowd was hectic.
You can on occasion (very rarely) get it manageable, but I'd rule out the whole of January and all weekends and the bank isn't as consistent as some of the other point breaks.
Word seems to get around very quickly when the bank is on, so you have to be onto it early.
Having such a popular caravan park + such an easy paddle to the front of the take off causes chaos.

I very rarely surf it these days. Used to live right at the Point and surf it daily but the crowd is way too hectic now. Just a total shitfight.
Luckily at the moment there are good options everywhere; in fact I can't recall an occassion where just about every pointbreak you can think of has good to all-time banks.
Even with that fact, crowds are still thick.
Some are worse than others. I prefer more localised spots where there is at least a semblance of order.

Worst crowds I've ever seen there...Sat 3rd was mayhem...cars parked halfway up to the main road.

Reality is ,if you think your going to get the local points uncrowded at there prime ,right wind ,tide etc. your dreaming ,those days are long gone . However if your willing to forget the early, bide your time and maybe cop a bit of side shore ,the way the banks have been lately ,theres been plenty of above average waves to be had .Blowin, taking the crowd out of the equation the waves were way better than being classed as average, would have been a memorable day if you had scored saturday with a few mates .

blowin has just been spoilt by his recent trip away as you can see from his contributions to the surf lingo thread

I hired southeys PI and stalked him in the shadows incognito all last week, he lead me to some great waves. that crowd was nothing to complain about after all

Thats my philosophy....wait for the wind to get on it a bit and thin the crowd.

High tide footage didn't really do it justice at all .
