Must be me, that was totally underwhelming to me. But then I don;t get video games.
I find it adds an extra layer of clunky artifice to it which removes you from the sensation of surfing Chopes.

Sure, a novelty it may be but the technology that enabled that is pretty impressive.

Of course it could never replace the sensation of surfing Chopes or any other wave for that matter, but to enable the viewer to choose their own perspective I think is pretty cool.

I see your point but struggle to appreciate technology for technologies sake.

What stands out most for me is that with all this new VR tech they are getting further away from the actual experience they are trying to simulate.

So from my point of view the tech is less than impressive, it's failing at it's stated mission.
No doubt it's the future though....and I think we're probably closer to a Brave New World than we think, where the majority consume these VR experiences and only a very fortunate few are actually able to experience any kind of authentic real thing.
Information will more and more become a consumable item sold to replace actual reality.
The next great Gold Rush for Capitalism in the Age of Information.

For me it was really cool to press pause and just look around the reef. I was checking out the fish in the first 30 seconds as the world exploded around them, watching the wave press down on the reef as they just went about their business. I was tripping out exploring the reef and the curves of parts of the wave I'd never really seen before all pretty much with it on pause.

The surfing was almost the least interesting part I reckon.

I see your point as well and a very valid one it is too.

Won't be long till this sort of technology crosses over into the porn industry, they're always early adaptors with this sort of thing.

From my perspective, having seen this for the first time, I was impressed but I'm pretty sure it will get boring quickly. Nothing beats looking down the line or the next section with my own eyes and no amount of technology can replace that.

I view it the same way Zen. No doubt the technology is impressive and there are a lot of companies moving into this area all wanting to be the next Nick Woodman/GoPro, however I just cant see it happening to the same extent. It's a chore to view, I don't want to click and stop and look around. Once maybe but that's it - novelty over.

This novelty will wear off very quickly. It felt like a lot of effort watching that for little result.

It's pretty amazing alright. I also agree it's a bit of a novelty but Imagine it during a code orange/red Chopes swell or anywhere where these big wave maniacs surf.....

No idea, but if he's gonna put himself in situations like that then the least he could do is be a sport and take us along for the ride.

GoPro, give the man a sponsorship.
