simonanderson1.jpgThis Sunday the Deus/Board Collector Surf Swap is happening at Bondi Pavillion. Exhibitors are busy polishing their sleds while punters are planning to kick some metaphorical tyres.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the world four million Syrian refugees have now fled their homes into neighbouring countries. Desperation and poverty is forcing them to take the dangerous journey across the Mediterranean to find shelter in Europe.

Ken Lewis from Tasmania has decided to do something to aide the situation:

"This week I was saddened deeply by the sight of people trying to make their way to Europe. We saw the loss of a young boy washed up on the Turkish beach. We as Australians live by and enjoy the water in many ways, never having to flee our shores. I have had so much joy from the ocean: sailing, surfing, and working."

"I have decided to raise some money for people affected by this conflict by auctioning off one of my prized boards. A new original 6'6" '81 thruster".

See the pic for Ken's board.

Ken's generosity has prompted the organisers to stage a live auction to raise money for refugees. It'll start at 12 noon, Sunday the 27th at Bondi Pavilion. Funds raised will be going to Australia for UNHCR, an Australian charity that raises funds to support the work of the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in Australia. Their purpose is to provide life changing humanitarian support to refugees and other displaced and stateless people who come under the care and protection of the UN Refugee Agency.

In addition to Ken's Simon Anderson other items will be auctioned, including:

  • 5'10" 'Aloha to Zen' twin fin shaped by Damion Fuller.
  • $300 gift voucher from Deus Ex Machina.
  • Donation from Bob McTavish.
  • Donation from Channel Islands.
    ...and many more!

Come by, score a bargain and also help raise money to support the refugees.

Good work Ken.

But personally I'd be giving cash and holding onto that board for a few years yet.

An extremely poor attitude IMO for an extremely worthy cause, well done to Ken and best of luck with the auction.

Thank you all for the positive vibe, Me giving up one of my prized Boards that took me 35 years to be able to afford and ask Simon Anderson at the same time if he would do it .. no sacrifice at all compared to the one others face ,ref to Blowin if I had cash I would of done such but I did not at the time when I felt I must do something, And in doing this many people have got on to help . Luke G , "a waste" I don't understand that comment . Midnight Oil had a song out when I was a young fella called lucky Country , Not every one can say that about there homeland.

Good work Ken. I did some charity work for an international organisation and was told by a Luke G type that I should look after Aussies first. Luke G. I have two questions for you: When was the last time you helped someone in need? and why don't you go f*ck yourself tosser?
