Great to see the Tassie surfers not even paddling for waves when a surfer is already up and riding. Can you lot come up to the mainland and teach a masterclass on how not to shut down sections on surfers.
Ha ha I only just saw that link (vid), i haven't seen Zeb for about 15 years, but i wouldn't be surprised if that was deliberate by that guy (unless Zeb has changed dramatically), when i knew Zeb he was very cocky loud mouth kinda guy and always thought he was the best surfer in the water and deserved every wave in the water and on land thought he was mans gift to women…that said he was good to surf with always pushing his surfing trying new things, and good to party with always action where ever he went.
He was actually a pretty average surfer back then, but from what I've recently seen has grown some gonads as big as buses…so i take my hat of to him.

Must have been good editing. The Points are as much of a shit fight as any other good wave. Especially after a few hours when everybody is freezing up and struggling against their suits, paddling like fools and missing every wave.
The Points have got a fair bit of media play lately. For years as a Tassie surfer the only thing people knew about us was Shippies. I now have people from all over the world saying 'oh do you surf those points?'.
They are fickle, but word from my neighbour was that about twelve blokes flew in to surf it from NSW this last swell. I know it is a broken record that most of you guys will shut down, but do we really need more blokes making a name and a dollar by putting pictures of our best waves on the internet?

Would love to have a crack at these Hobart points.
Anyone know what size swell you need at Clifton for these to fire?
SheepdogFriday, 15 May 2015 at 3:48pm
Man you'd need to live here..... They break VERY rarely.... If you come here for a week, and you luck getting the hobart points, may I suggest buying a lotto ticket lol..... Clifton has to be closing out.... Mind you, that aint much of a clue cos' clifton can be closing out at 1 foot ;)
redrocketFriday, 15 May 2015 at 5:16pm
Cmon shheepy. ..give us the goodies. Im One of the few people on the surfcoast who doesnt burn everyone
SheepdogFriday, 15 May 2015 at 5:29pm
Redrocket... There's alot of wilderness down here.... People have been known to just......... Disappear........ Never seen again..... No questions asked......
So, as the born and bred locals down here would say.... "sorry, cobba".... ;)

I'm not as tight-lipped as Sheepy Rocketman, and i'm from the mainland so don't care about ruining it for the locals down here... needs at least 10 metre open ocean swells, strong sou or noreasterly winds...
The best spots though, in these conditions, Bridgwater point and the points near the Zinc works, few heavy metals in the water but can't miss them when they're on... friendly locals too. All Tasmanians are cuddly and friendly.

" strong sou or noreasterly winds"........................................
Grug..... I have a video for you........

BlowinFriday, 15 May 2015 at 10:42pm
Remember when those breaks seemed mysterious and remote ?
stunetSaturday, 16 May 2015 at 7:56am
Not tryna belittle, but there was a double page spread in the first issue of Aussie Surfing Life (photos by Sean Davey, words by Tim "The business of the brolly" Bailey) of the points with rough directions to 'em. Reckon there was a shot in every photo annual or Tassie feature since.
indo-dreamingSaturday, 16 May 2015 at 9:00am
True that, not to mention they have been in every published surf guides with directions and conditions since the 80,s…guys might be lucky to catch them if they saw the forecast and jump a quick flight, but your chances are even with a good forecast its highly likely you will luck out, I know from experience in pre internet days when i lived up NW Tassie we would get word they are on, jump straight in the car for the long drive down, only to find we had missed it…and man its painfully freezing down that far south.
donweatherSaturday, 16 May 2015 at 9:02am
My mate scored similar waves to the above on Thursday morning down there all to himself so if you're onto it before the sheep you can still score uncrowded surf.
BlowinSaturday, 16 May 2015 at 6:38pm
I had actually typed about Sean Davies photo then decided against it.
That was when it was remote and mysterious.
I'm aware that those days are passed, I was just fondly recalling a memory.
That was the photo of the fella in the fingerless gloves sitting on a log watching wasn't it ?
spencieSaturday, 16 May 2015 at 8:21am
Trouble is that with every nice lineup photo that gets into the media there will be a new rash of mainland surfers trying to come here for a slice of the action. I live here and know just how incredibly fickle the points are. Be lucky to average one good day per month on average year round. May only work then for half a day with the right tides and winds too. There are plenty of surfers down here ready to take a day off school/work when the forecast looks promising.
SheepdogSaturday, 16 May 2015 at 9:14am
If these points are working, there are other options.... Why would I drive 1 1/2 hours to score 2 to 3 foot crowded points when there's many classic setups? Rivermouths, bays, reefs, wedgey beach breaks,.... Might as well get a plane to noosa, and fill my springy with icepacks....
freeride76Saturday, 16 May 2015 at 9:59am
Looks like an insanely cold, longer, warbly and backwashy and just as crowded version of Burleigh rockbreak.
Is that a good day? Waist to chest high with a bit of devil wind on it?
no thanks. If I'm going to surf in crowds I'll take warm water and proper barrels thanks.
All yours Taswegians.
SheepdogSaturday, 16 May 2015 at 11:29am
Free ride, there's alot more to tassie than a few inconsistent little points and one ledgey beast....... Somewhere on the east coast...... Look closely.... Guy bottom turning on outside set wave....
dandandanSaturday, 16 May 2015 at 11:48am
Good points made - but the same points were made about every other now-crowded spot. Remember when Nias was too wild? When the Mentawais were too remote? When that right-hander in Qld was too sharky? When Tassie was too cold? When the points were too fickle? We kid ourselves constantly that our actions don't contribute to crowding out the spots we love, the same way we kid ourselves that we need to do something about climate change but then take five international flights in a year and pretend we aren't part of the problem (guilty right here).
That said, had a great surf with only three blokes this morning. You guys should come visit.
freeride76Saturday, 16 May 2015 at 12:10pm
sure there is Doggy but fuck that cold water makes a man feel old.
Just surfed the local Point. Nothing amazing but I've just put the springy on in the last fortnight.
SheepdogSaturday, 16 May 2015 at 4:00pm
Looks like I'm outa' here soon anyway, fr....... But i aint coming back to North New south latte',,,,,, or prefab banana land..... ;)
freeride76Saturday, 16 May 2015 at 6:52pm
where to then Dawg?
Streaky Bay?
SheepdogSaturday, 16 May 2015 at 9:02pm
I aint rich, fr.... If I had your bank account, yeah, latte' land would be nice :p TThat ferry ride to rock wall land is lovely.... As is air force head......
But i refuse to get a bank loan and become a modern day slave... I also can't stand being a unit dweller...
Mate have a look at house prices in Streaky region... Nearly fell over....... Must make the houses out of gold.....
Missus has been crook so yeah, you are on the right track "state wise"... She wants to go home, and fair enough..... Might go and give yorke surfer the shits.... or maybe share a few fathanders with TGF....I might even take up boogie boarding at knights hahaha............
Or possibly another region I wont mention.....
So 3 areas targeted, all in the same state......
