It's hard to imagine people surfing there without letting you know about it , but believe it or not that's what happened. I'm pretty sure Rufus's grew up within pushy distance of the joint. His old man surfed the area for years before him too.

The only difference between there and PC is there has been no industry wankers keen to exploit it to aggrandise themselves till now.

As for WA locals, I reckon it's a bit different than the East coast and there is a bit more of an interchangeable community vibe that goes on. Look at Crossy, he's a mixed breed of towns now.

But still I wouldn't call Marg's crew locals down there just like its a stretch to call Craiky a local at Gnaraloo.

cale and co are cool nice blokes . but at some stage , i'm pretty sure they have had write ups in mag's with photo's in their region .... Cale may have been the first and pretty much the first photo's weren't of that right hander that the mags ran but another smaller cheese grater nearby .
Then only a couple of years later , atleast him and shanno ( not too sure from memory on Ben ) had photo's published at the wave above ....
Don't ask me about the Boogers though , those guys are in another world .

As I stated earlier they turned up and started taking waves off the locals before even declaring "g'day, we are here to take over, any wave we want is OURS". Which of course they didn't say, they just decided to take any wave they wanted.

Then, tim bonython posts a photo of another wave in the area(apparently) saying there are more quality rights around.
And Brutus I don't want a slinging match, I was just noting the fact that if these clips that go up on the Internet and the news can affect a community in south western Victoria, they can surely affect em in other parts of the community. (Remember T-ray and the ch7 chopper!)
When people spend a big budget to make something happen, they forget to realise that they might be wrecking some one else's day. Some one who works for a living and enjoys taking a day in the waves, some one who's waited at his local all year, to finally be snaked by numerous skis hunting and frothing for their next media release.

agree mick , but only to people that know that launch . ( ie people who have been there ) as opposed to someone from afar . WA is a really big coastline , sl isn't helping with time frame distance acknowledgements , especially when he is in fact totally opposed to this persons exposure . The wave does take care of itself , I also agree that some footage of coastal entry is just pointless and STUPID .
However , sometimes I have seen people use footage of the non descript entry closer to " the Left " .....
Anyway , i'll let Morris and Shaun " the culture kings " continue the class wars ....

Tim Bonython is often Braindead to insensibilities or even media exposure etiquette , but Cale and whoever else were involved in the mag photo shoot , left a prominent headland in the background of one shot .... And bang , even someone originally from another state like myself at the time knew exactly where it was . Not to mention that " the right " was infact the Nearby bombie .

so when RC came and held the Bells finals at Gibbos without any consultation with the local club/residents...that's when the town all banded together and created their Surf Sanctuary Vision...I have read the document......

I guess that having a wave like 2k bay.....was what was drawing the big wave guys and their film crews ......now that it's been established as a no-exposure zone....it is all about respecting what the local stakeholders want...and how they get it..
