Thundercloud
Based around one of the most spectacular days in surf history, June 8th 2012, when a massive swell hit Cloudbreak in the middle of the World Championship Tour event, 'Thundercloud' is a 60-minute documentary that tells the story in full.
Thundercloud features interviews and accounts from the world's best surfers. It also shines a light on the dark history of the area, re-enacting the murder of King Ratu Imanueli that led to the island of Tavarua being handed over to the opposing tribe as a peace offering and how that would effect course of surfing history for years to come as US investors sought to create an exclusive surf resort in the area.
We hear from Tavarua Island's Jon Roseman, the Attorney General of Fiji and the man that lobbied the government to change the decree in 2010, Ian Muller, leading to the liberation of the exclusive wave rights in Fiji. As Thundercloud Reef was open for the world to enjoy, we recount the awesome swells of 2010 and 2011. And then of course, all the drama and action of the postponed WCT event and subsequent freesurfing session that re-wrote the rule book and set the bar for paddle surfing into the future.
We need your help to make this ground breaking story grace the big screen the world over. The Thundercloud crowd-funding campaign has been launched as a means of securing the needed funds to finish this independent surf documentary.

has to be one of the best if not the best wave in the world.
mark healy said; [with a smirk] we made it quite clear...if you want to run this comp in these conditions........we have the equipment for the surfers to use.
makua rothman; when the waves are like that they want nothing to do with it.
Picked up that too Udo, but in offering up their boards, I'm sure they knew in the back of their heads that the offer wouldn't be taken up.
Despite everything that came afterward, that wave by Scardy (red board) still has to be one of the best waves ridden out there. Definetely not the biggest but the way he puts in the big ones right after takeoff, pumping that oversize gun for all it's worth, then setting a rail as the lip line gets away before busting out with the spit.
Yep...impressive shit.
Mate Bozo has lost all time for you since you walked out on Burly Trail and won't come to visit you until you pick up your axe and become a man again, I'll give you Bombalaho nettle
I sold my bass and amps to Hinesy. All I've got now is a pair of kiddies castanets and a xylophone, and all I can play is a rumba version of Highway to Hell. Ain't quite the same.
Don't worry about Bozo mate, just come down the coast a bit further to a certain rock ledge which was firing this morning and have a wave with me.
For sure Scardy's wave was a shot across the bow of what had been the status quo of ultra big wave paddle-in barrel riding.
Up to that point it had been a tow-in deal...and in fact it took quite a while before people were actually ready to believe Scardy had paddled into that wave.
Wasn't that big a board either: six eight. AB. Which is why he was able to pump it.
Really, is that all it was, 6'8" Crazy!
Kohl Christensen's drop takeoff (I would argue) is the biggest ever made, he falls for about 3 or more metres! Pretty sure that was from the same swell.
Didn't get much coverage for his efforts though?
same swell gaduaskas finless drop .....straighten out was fuckin tough.
Like!
