The Volcom Pipe Pro: A favourable forecast

The organisers of the Volcom Pipe Pro called another 'Lei Day' yesterday. It must've been a tough call, what with 12 feet plus of raw swell hitting Second Reef Pipe, but ultimately they deemed the conditions too gnarly. A decision borne out by this freesurfing video taken yesterday. It oughta come with a PG rating cos some of the beatings are gruesome.

Fortunately yesterday's swell is only the beginning of a run of waves. As Craig Brokensha, Swellnet's Forecaster, said, "Today's groundswell will ease back steadily through tomorrow but still be in the 10-12ft range early.

"A strong new West/North-west groundswell is expected to build slowly Thursday and peak through Friday to a large 12 foot+ with east-northeast trades. This may be too big to run the event but on the backside of the swell through Saturday and Sunday winds should remain favourable from the east."

With the waiting period continuing till February 7th and an active North Pacific it appears the organisers are gonna be able to cherry pick their days. And here's hoping we see more 'Lei Day' freesurf footage.
