We reach a milestone you get the prize
This morning Swellnet passed a significant milestone in our social media strategy - 100,000 Facebook likes. By this measure Swellnet is now the third largest surf site in the world and the largest in Australia. If you haven't joined up yet you can do so here.
The celebration coincides with the release of our new 'Swellnet Hardware' legropes. Yep, spanking new six foot leggys that you'll see plenty more of in the future.
For now though we're giving ten away for free. Simply tell us what a good alternative use for a leggy is. You know, besides using them for surfing. We'll choose ten answers this afternoon then whack the legropes in the post. The winners can use them however they like.
Get to it...

A little light afternoon bondage while you're waiting for the swell...
I was going to say snatch strap, but in light of acatinatree's comment, maybe I won't.
Keep your kid from running off at the shops. Tie the knot on the trolley, chuck the strap on their ankle.
i use my leggie everyday to tie my board to the roof of my car. works a dream!
I tie mine to a coat hanger and then hook it up to the door so it hangs about 30cms from the heater so my wetty can dry. yew
strap it to the car for longboard/skate towing.. take two leashes for twice the fun or for a mate to go doubles
Dog collar, I have a small dog!!
I've used mine a few times as a dog leash after a session. he liked the extra length compared to his usual leash.
To cut off blood flow to your leg when you're bitten by a venomous creature whilst trecking through scrub lands on the search for that perfect untouched wave!
The ultimate shanghai?.
Works a treat to pull up the tool box onto the roof at work + the 6 pack after
It could be useful as a make-shift belt or alternative to the "Skinny tie"... Leggy-fashion statement!
Great for when your short on rope, I used mine to hang up my hammock after a 5 hour surf provides for a wicked outdoor snooze.
I use it as a tow rope for some damn surfing in summer. Tie one end to a quad bike hold onto the other end step onto A surfboard and drive the quad bike along the side of the damn!!
On those freezing cold mornings during winter the leg rope works
Great as a skipping rope to get you warmed up before you hit the surf!!
We recently lost the keys to our surf gear shed at our university surf club. Using our surfer smarts, we have prevented this happening again by tying a leggie to the keys so now whoever has the keys also has to wear the leggie as a precaution. It has already proven very effective on those loose uni pub nights!
They make great dog leads.
I've used the ankle strap of a snapped leggie as a stubby cooler.
Strapped one to a busted totem tennis poll missing the string. Ball in the ankle strap and hey presto - hours of weekend fun when there's no surf.
I run up and down from boobs to bells with a leggy loosely leashing my 7 month old loyal kelpie pup. dream run too btw
Attach one end to the letterbox, the other end to the bin. Drag the bin into the garage and keep it full stretch by wrapping another old leggie around it. Then on bin day when the wheelie is chockers, simply let the bugger go and your bin's out the front ready for collection faster than you can say "flying garbage".
There's nothing like tying a leggie to the doorknob for a bit of Hutchence-style autoerotic asphyxiation!
I like to tie a plastic bag to the end of my leggie and flying it as a kite
Swellnet hardware legropes: reaching out for the top two surf site spots since 2012.
(So, what are the top two surf websites?)
You reckon these nuts hang so low naturally?
tie my girlfriend to the kitchen LOL
Clif, they would be Surfline and Surfer Magazine.
Use my leggy as a clothes line
Thanks, Craig. Big congrats. Lots of hard work.
I'm using mine as a resistance band to exercise my knee after a torn ACL. Works great.
on a trip from goldie to Noosa to visit family when I was a grommie, the exelerator cable broke on the 'ol mans kombie around browns plains (bris).
He attached a leggie to throttle lever in back of kombie, stretched it round the side to the drivers window.
Drove the rest of the way to noosa excelerating by pulling the leggie in right hand hangin out of window.
*** true story.
always used to tie the boards down to the roof when when the straps dont reach!
When a mate falls asleep in his camp chair attach it to the chair, then his leg.. Always funny
I used to use my spare leggie as booby traps on my lil brother as he ran down the hall..
you know those showers at the beach which you have to hold on the tap button entire time? strap the leggy around it for a hands free shower!
I use it as a lead to walk my dog, I ride and he runs next to me while attached to it... its great as it gives him plenty of 'freedom' !! Loves it!
I use a spare leggy as a clothes-line in my campervan.
I attach it to my other leggy to give myself that 12 foot leaway i need when i dont make my wave 0.o
I use my leggy to hang my wetsuits up as a line and it gets stretched the same time
Often use my leggy to clean between my toes, for best results use mid-wave on the wave of the day.
The under-house wetsuit, bootie, hood drying line.
Tame compared to the rest but post-session stretching with the aid of a leggy is heaps good
Whilst on road trips (camping with board, mountain bike etc) i've used my leggy as a security rope to tie my bike to a tree next to the tent whilst sleeping. I figure it's too noisey to try and undo the velcro and steal the bike. Bike hasn't been stolen yet :)
Used my leggie once as a tow rope to tow a mate's car! Worked a treat!
hook the velcro end around the tip of the surf board, and place the cord over your shoulder. Now you've got a surf board carry strap- walk along with your surf board hanging off your shoulder, no hands required! :)
Ever had a lose tooth? Simply loop the ankle strap to a door handle, thread the string loop around your lose tooth and slam the door shut. Problem solved and you earn a gold coin if you leave the tooth in a glass of water beside your bed at night!
Congratulations.
Make it 100,001. I don't do disgracebook, so I can't press like.
A leggy is the best fully integrated tiedown for roofracks ever. Even if the board come lose you won't lose it, it just drags behind the car and turns a 6'2 into a 5'9.
I use my leg rope to whip bodyboarders who drop in!
Leggies make the ultimate mankini
Strap it on your front foot and tie the other end to a fake shark fin so when you paddle round the line up people peak out and leave you to to empty waves!
Strap your favourite piece of fruit to the leash (banana for me) then take the lucky l'il fruit on a scenic walk along the beach!
It's obvious when you think about it;
Administration and implementation of World peace
You can use you leggy as a noose when you drive 12 hours straight from Vic to the mid n.s.w coast for 1ft swells!!! Hope it picks up later this week!
When the surf is gnarly but homework needs doing I use my leggy to strap myself to my work desk (its the only successful method of keeping me from the surf).
A leg rope is fantastic for when a surfer gets a fin cut and uses it to help slow the blood flow. saving lives!
Great trailer nets
I seem to often use mine as a great source of everyone elses entertainment by wrapping it around my feet while running down the beach.
Great as a makeshift close line... and hitching head of swag to anchor point..car.. tree...
What would Michael Hutchence do with it?
What? Still too soon?
Using it as rope to hold up my swag on this east coast surf trip (1foot max swell). Great timing Ugos!
I chase SUP riders around the car park and try to strangle them.
I tie one end to a bike, the other end someone holds and you tow them on a longboard(skateboard) around the streets!!! I can't afford a gym so its the only workout i get when theres no surf...
Used the velcro strap for from a busted leggy as a ankle strap when cycling to work. Keeps the pants away from the greasy chain & deludes me into thinking I'm heading out for a surf instead of work!
Towing my mate on his retro skatie around the block on the back of my bike :)
I'd use it as a excuse to the missus to get another session in trying out the new leggie!!
I'd twirl it around in circles and run through the open countryside in the nude like a beautiful peacock.
Golden rule: new board/new leggie.
I've given plenty away to groms. I've also left a few in the car park at local breaks with a little "free to good home" sign.
Recently I've started collecting surf hardware flotsam and sea glass with the view to creating some art. Two old leggies are in the bin waiting on the creative juices to flow.
limbo !!!!
Fifty shades of sand and surf!
the best alternative is to skitch behind a bike with a skateboard!!!
the best alternative is to skitch behind a bike with a skateboard!!!
Used it as a sling when I trashed my shoulder in a surf session. I strapped my wrist with the leggy and then leash itself went over my shoulder and I wrapped it around my arm until I adjusted it to the right length. Bear Grylls how do you like them apples?
My kids use my old leggies in the backyard as skipping ropes

Leg ropes double as a great lasso to manage unruly grommets at your local breaks
Tie your kangaroos down, sports....
Congratulations on the numbers, Stu. May your hard work continue to reward all involved.....
Well done.
Thanks Roller, appreciate it.
what about when riding a motor bike ? Use leggy as board strap
Cut two slots in a piece of leather 1"x1". Tie the leggy to two trees and use it for a water balloon sling shot!
Stu, failing that I couldn't win (I thought my beer cooler was a pretty good idea and something I actually do use) if one wishes to purchase one of your leggies, how would one go about it?
Information to come soon, Zen.
never used 'em, bloke I know used to use them to tie his left sandshoe on though when he went out at Sandshoes, being a natural he only needed one - sandshoe that is ....
