A Message Abbott Can't Miss
Back in June Opposition leader, Tony Abbott, auctioned his surfing skills off for charity. The prize for the winning bidder? A surfing lesson by the man himself.
Community action organisation, GetUp!, raised the most money and put forth a former Afghan refugee, Riz Wakil, as the recipient. Since then, however, Abbott has refused to return calls and the lesson looks unlikely to occur.
GetUp! would like to see Abbott honour his commitment. See what you can do to help.

Your kidding???? You actually expect that a politician will honour a promise?
Abbott see's the future without refugee's in our waters so giving the lesson would have gone against liberal policies regarding refugee's.
Politics is a merky pond full of sharks, crocks and rats.
This bloke would want to be careful. He isn't a white Australian so Tony Abbott might turn his board around and push out to sea yelling "go back where you came from".
he's pretty busy at the moment trying to save australia from a disaster 'the labour party'
what disaster is that? insulation? my house is warm this winter with it? a few workplace accidents in roofs? it happens when people arent trained properly. how many have died in iraq? unemployment? lowest in western world. debt? 6% of GDP. new school buildings at every school? what a waste you reckon. boat people? 23,000 since 1978(32 years), compared with 240,0000 legitimate migrants in one year? would love to hear your response. im embarassed that abbots a surfer.
this government is incompetent beyond belief, 4 insulation workers dead ,so much money wasted through sheer mismanagement ,still throwing money at it to fix the stuff up.Then there"s the B.E.R that could have been done for over a billion dollars less than it has cost so far. The mining boom and a 22 billion surplus left to this bunch of halfwits by the previous government is the only reason we are'nt in more debt and higher unemployment. There is a list of people waiting to come to Australia why should these people be allowed to jump the queue fairs fair. The bottom line is this government have been a disaster and don't deserve to run a chook raffle let alone the country.Listen to the way Gillard speaks .now thats embarrassing
all governments make mistakes. how much has that iraq war cost us? what about those helicopter frames that howard bought? multi billion dollar fuck-up! and the pacific solution in nauru was worth another billion plus. over $100,000 each boat person. and they all ended up in australia anyway. in one week it will all be over and we can get on with our lives.
And dont forget the F18 Super Hornet feasco, outdated secondhand crap that Howard brought to keep the yanks happy.Billions pissed up the wall while our northern neighbors brought cheaper Russian plans that can fly, further, faster, higher, out climb & carry a heavier payload than the over priced old Hornets.Pity any Australian pilot who ever has to come up against one of these cheap Russian planes in a Super Hornet.
Watching you guys argue about politics is funny to look at. If you believe there is a difference bewteen Labour and Liberal you are seriously deluded. If you think your life will change one iota with a change to liberal politics or vice versa you are naive in the extreme. Policy in this country is not deceided by political parties anymore, some would say it never has been.
I can't even be bothered voting for this bunch of rabble, what is the point. Your Australia has sold out to the safety police, political correctness and (personal) debt induced fear. Never mind, my Australia still includes freedom, quiet empty waves on deserted beaches, prosperity and good times the politicians can't take from me.
Grover: Keep ya fluoro vest on, you probabaly need it. Your Australia is obviously controlled by folk in Canberra
C'mon, you cant be that naive. Getting some poor punter from Afghanistan to further some political action group of bleeding heart do gooders stinks of a set-up.
Abbott put himself up for the charity auction, he should bloody well go through with his promise. First thing he's reneged on already, and he's not even PM yet, and hopefully never is!
Wish I could "like" Brendo's post..
heard about the Coalition Real Action Plan....or C.R.A.P for short.
As Groucho Marx said " any club that would have me as a member, I don't want to be a member". Expect nothing and Australia's pollies will deliver.
actualy rubberknob I've got a wife and two young children to care for and a morgage to pay ,like alot of hard working decent Aussies,so I really do care about what happens to my hard earned taxes and i don't like to see those taxes and national wealth literaly wasted by the billions .which is what this labour government has done.Prosperity and freedom comes from a stable democraticly elected government .If we all took your 'couldn't be bothered' approach we'd end up like Brazil, and there's not much prosperity over there rubberknob .or is it Knob for short.
if abbott had his way and the ecomomy wasnt stimulated you may not have had a job grover! or is it groveller?
People always get the Government they deserve Rubber Bob. Keep pretending that you live in a rubber bubble and your likely to end up with a Pol Pot, Idi Armin or even worse Tony Abbott running things. So pay attention and participate in your own democracy doppy or "your Australia" might just disappear up "your fundamental orifice". And while I'm on the subject Grover, Brazil is actually undergoing an economic boom and has been outperforming many developed nations throughout the GFC. So maybe you better double check the figures you've been getting from your local Giberal Party flunky, cause they're probably even more dodgy than your Brazil prosperity info.
Fergus, we already have the government we deserve and it aint going to change on Saturday regardless of who gets in. Policy in this country is deceided by elite public servants and the wallets of big business. These guys never face the voters.
Grover: You missed my point ... The history of taxpayer waste shows both parties as equal, both spend to get votes. I made a fortune from the solar rebate scheme and this was a liberal policy (Thanks Johnny). I have worked with renewable energy for 30 odd years and the solar rebates were/are but one example of a criminal waste of taxpayer money. Insulation by the Labor party is another. I wish you and your family the best but politicians don't have your interest at heart, you need to take 100% responsibility for yourself!
Knob, Bob, whatever, I care not, but come Saturday the last place I am fronting up to is a polling booth.
Rubber-bob if you care about your country and your kids future you should vote on saturday! if you cant bring yourself to vote for the major parties vote Greens, independant or heaven forbid Family First if that floats your boat! you cant really have a opinion on politics if you are not casting a vote mate.
Rubber Bob, nobody ever said that politics is perfect science or craft, but as history demonstrates it's the only process that we have which enables us to address human aspirations on our little blue planet. You can be a cynic and de-register yourself from acknowledging politics as a protest, but regardless of your feelings political decisions are still going to impact on you and those around you. You may as well deny a force of nature for all the good it will do.
Grover - "There is a list of people waiting to come to Australia why should these people be allowed to jump the queue fairs fair."
Mate the vast majority of these people are asylum seekers who have every right to “jump the queue†. If you knew what kind of lives they were fleeing then you would be letting them in as quick as you could.
Why should we stop the boats? We should be doing everything we can for these people.
Hey Fergus: I put a sticky note on me fridge: "Bob dude, become less cynical". Not sure if it will work though.
Good chatting with you guys, hope you all wake up happy on Monday, I will.
"bleeding hearts, do gooders" your words evo62. oops sorry if i assumed your political leanings! if only Pauline Hanson was still in politics, then im sure you would have someone to vote for...
Yep , assumed is right. You are so far off the mark when it comes to my political ideology. Keep ranting, it is amusing/amazing me that you are so fired up.
As someone else alluded to earlier, if the mainstream media had the gumption to really dig into the political debate as opposed to chasing ratings we might find the masses have a more informed opinion. Instead it appears voting will be based on a popularity contest. I just don't see either of them as 'statesman' type of leaders that won't make me cringe when they embarrass themselves on the world stage (feel free to make another gross generalisation Yorkes)
Agreed neither julia or tony are brilliant leaders. i was dissapointed when rudd got rolled personally. but crap like "bleeding heart do gooders" is the sort of shit pedalled every day in the media on stations like 2GB in sydney. have i formed an opinion of you by the words you say evo62? yes i have.
As I have of you....
