Watch: Awaken - A Cold Water Surf Film
With steel gray water, snow to sea level, and extremities covered in rubber, Awaken feels a long way from the approaching Australian summer. It's worth a watch, however, for the quality of the waves and surfing, plus the unhurried editing that doesn't try to do too much.
Yet if the blurb is to be believed, this is a film with bold purpose:
"Awaken is the story of a group of brave souls who are deeply connected to nature and specifically the frozen waters of the North Atlantic Ocean. Their commitment to such a pure pursuit is a reminder that everything we need to thrive is already provided by Mother Earth."
Awaken didn't remind me of what I needed to thrive but it made for an enjoyable half-hour viewing.

100% respect for the surfers
0% pyshed to go there .
hahaha same.
Maybe that sunny barrelling left made me feel like going surfing, the rest was just- fcuk that.
Worth staring at that photo up above, the still shot of Mullaghmore used in the YouTube frame, and trying to imagine old mate's view.
Incredible situation.
Too hairy for me Stu
Was it Mullaghmore that Joel Fitz surfed in Litmus?
Joel surfed a wave called Pmpa in Litmus , about 20 drive north of Mully . PMPA pronounced pampa after an Irish insurance company , hence the name needing insurance to surf it a pretty heavy wave but nothing compared to its big brother Mully down the road . The water is so thick and heavy here .
No. Another wave.
Beautiful cinema photography, beautiful film. Reverse Paradise indeed.
Hah! Yeah mother nature provides everything we need to thrive except for really thick neoprene and polyurethane/styrene surfboards. Depending on what you view as natural and unnatural. Look forward to the version with horses and kilts.
Nice watch though.
22.55 is genius
Wow wee! Stunning! Would love to visit. But taking a board would not be on the agenda. Haha.
magic, cheers! the water temp in west coast of scotland/eire in (their) summer is about the same as vicco in winter. with the gulf stream, it's fine.. head over at the start of their season in sept, and you won't notice water temp much. Lazy winds are another matter! but neeps & tatties and a pint will never taste so good. Chris Burkard talk, (reff'd in Kirk Owens article SW 421)
