Watch: Nias In August
The same swell that recently kicked over Padang Padang also did its thing further up the archipelago at Nias. Old Balint Hambalko had it covered from both the channel and the point.
All footage taken during a six hour period at the peak of the swell.

Positioning is everything....Solid and Heavy...
Similar to Trestles ? asking for a friend
Very good
@Kimbo1 Same same, but different. 555
It looks kind of annoying. The heaviest and hollowest part is the takeoff, then it goes almondy on most of them. Most do stay open though, in spite of their almondy shape. I much prefer a heaving end section.
It is so far inside the bay, how protected is it from the swell?
Annoying!?
Don't worry, you don't have to go there and surf it....no ones forcing you.
Oh and it's a deep Bay, cops plenty of swell
I've only been there twice but it seems like a bit of a magnet....
I think the long period on this swell overwhelmed the break…that footage is about as heavy as Nias handles. Drop the period and swell a touch and the wave opens up a lot more.
Annoying? What the?
Yeah, I would be frustrated watching the big heaving barrel come towards me too fast, only to take off on the end section that is semi-hollow and ends fat. I figure, if I'm in Indo I want long hollow barrels with backdoor sections and shockwaves to negotiate. I suppose Teahupoo is similar, but the barrel is longer and HEAVING!!! Having said all this, I've never been to Indo and I don't claim to be an expert. But no, I wouldn't go to Nias.
C’mon Billie have a crack.Nias is an epic set up and if your on ya backhand, well ,it’s a trip and a half let me say.Yeh ,gets busy at times but you can’t let that bother you.Positivity is the way.Great place to hang out between surfs as well.Cheers mate.
