Watch: South Coast Session
The window during the peak of last week's bombing south swell was small, with winds just swinging offshore enough on Tuesday morning to clean up the deep-water reefs and bomboras.
As always, Tim Bonython was there on hand to capture the first, significant southerly swell of the year.

Has anyone gone right here?
Many have Phil Macca being one.
And this vid10min 14sec
Gee that looks a lot like a Fillipeee wave he would love that!
Jeez that wave has had some coverage over the past couple of years. Epic surfing but dare I say have had enough of it. Locals cool with the it?
Doesn’t seem to matter unfortunately
Reality is only a few of the hardcore have the skillset or the desire. The coverage here is a good thing, keeps the focus on one select local whilst the rest of us enjoy the solitude :)
A few select locals are the ones who exposed for their own benefit…can’t complain about it now.
They weren’t locals
And the locals hate the circus, most of the visitors don’t seem to realise that people live there and have to get on with their business.
Fun to watch though!
Fair enough Sacdog1…coming from the nearby region doesn’t necessarily make you a local…they’ve certainly managed to blow the place up. Glad you’re still enjoying the spectacle.
Same all country round isn't it? Doesn't matter if hardcore reef like this or your local fickle beachie - as long as the interloper is getting benefit it is rare any consideration is given to those who live there.
Absolutely, they’re all crazy !
Only works on big swell and is really only for a select bunch who don't mind having their wetties ripped off their bodies on the wipeout and getting their ear drums burst on the hold down, plus it's a bloody long way out and the current can rip out there too (though some of the local boys paddle all the way out there!) but the rest of us "locals" just surf the myriad other sick waves, also when this is working, pretty much every other spot will have a wave too, so it definately spreads the crowd.
hmm, they can have it. hollow drop to negotiate, with a pinching end section.
First time I remember seeing it was in some of the surf mags with shots of a session with the Macca brothers.
And they were trying to say it was on the Victorian side of the border.
I don't think they fooled anyone.
Nup not with a sign on the highway.
That’s some pretty skilled backhand surfn Lachie doing, he's got a special ability with that style.
I'm glad it's not my local break getting advertised to the world for a change.
it's said in the video "the swell direction was a bit east" , "winds a bit south" on other recent video it's "the period is a bit big".
Ok mate just film it but quit the forecasting tips Tim, surfing in crowds sucks
Haha
Another south coast session that looked interesting:
It's weird how everyone knows where it is, what it's called, it's packed every swell, there's tonnes of footage of it, yet still no-one really dares name drop it. You'd think it would be in video titles by now.
There's more popular spots, with less footage, that are less well known just by virtue of them sucking in comparison, yet no-one cares when you name them. Surfing's a weird hobby.
Anyone done a carnage report? Broken, lost gear, medical attention required and physio sessions booked
Pretty sick wave, always watch it going off when surfing some of the nearby reefs, but I reckon I'll just stick to spearing the bommie when it's flat instead, ha ha yeeeeeeew!
