Watch: Mason Ho // Rare Perfect Sandbar
I'm assuming the "rare perfect sandbar" at Rockpiles is somehow connected to the excess of sand we saw during the recent Pipe Masters?
Can anyone confirm/debunk?
Rare sand aside, this is much like every other Mason vid: raw-ish editing; noodley jazz/prog soundtrack; great surfing; and then ten minutes of staring at a board. Sometimes I run his clips, sometimes I don't, but this one gets a pass mark on the strength of the hefty tail stall used in the breakout image (and also seen at 0:55).
Eithan Osborne adds some spice to the clip with a huge backside rotor at 1:20, Nathan Fletcher lofts through his board at 3:00, and Kala Grace appears to be recovering well, falling into a late one at 5:15.

Get the bass guitar out and play along Stu!
nice effort at 4:33
Even a sandbar in Hawaii looks dangerous as fuck. Bet the chiropractors had plenty of work after that day.
Perfectly demonstrated at the 7 minute mark
Never really thought about it in detail, but a proper tail stall (as per the above) would have to be up there as one of the hardest manoeuvers to nail properly.
Johnny Boy Gomes knew how
If someone told you this was pipe / back door you wouldn’t really think otherwise.
Where are the ankle deep rocks?
No old buggers out there...
I can confirm nor deny;
some of the noodling jam soundtracks are most likely decent recordings of Jimi Hendrix & the Maui wowi tribe, back in 1970.
The 'Egyptian style' backhand tubes @4.34 were explored at Lakey Pipe in the mid 1980's; no sand, razor coral, shallow, even at high tide.
Quick reflexes & flexible bodies are required to negotiate these tubes & consequences....
Love this channel & an easy barrel
Great barrels.. definitely for young rubber band folks.. they don’t break ..
I wonder if this and the JJF video are of the same bluebird day as the Sunset Final. Beautiful conditions.
Definitely right side of Rock piles...watched him surf Rock piles rocks before Christmas he is going to run out of luck at some stage
Yes the jazz noodling are rare hendrix stuff. Mason has introduced the other side of Hendrix to the world through almost all of his clips. Love it!!!!
It's a great addition and has become a signature part of his clip delivery, however I was wondering if it was more to do with sidestepping copyright laws than any innate love for Hendrix.
I was a little intrigued by the phenomenon of the disappearing surfer on the ride starting at 5:22.
that one at 4:32 was the pick, maybe smaller than the others but fairly decent tube time..Whole clip was epic tho.
Love his energy but all I can think about is all that foam and fibreglass going into some landfill site on the once pristine Hawaiian islands.....
Surely he is breaking almost a board a session?
Very nice!
