Having never been there it looks completely unlike what I assumed it to be - it looked a piece of piss on this vid (maybe due to the drone angle) but expect it's anything but in reality.

In my limited experience of one trip it felt like the Moneytrees section was more mellow when it's working. Bit more of a let in, less relentlessly down the line. Still brutal if you fluff it and get dragged over the reef but that's usually over pretty quickly. Then just a long paddle back around.
Speedies is more critical and faster Launching Pad can give you a roll in but if you're taking off inside of that or down the line then buckle in. Lots of broken boards and not quite made takeoffs. It's tempting to sit in those other places because Launching Pad is crowded and you can see lots of good waves going through which aren't quite hitting the pad. That's where a lot of the carnage happens where the seagulls are hanging. You can still get dream waves in there but be prepared to pay the price. Getting rinsed over the reef is the worst because the lagoon current is so fast when a big swell is running. Quick as quick you're ejected 100m down the line.
That's what it was like when I was there. Came with 3 boards had 1 almost redundant shortie by the time I left, at least the swell had dropped by then.
First day was huge and a little wonky and I sat with most of the camps of surfers watching 5 legends trading frightening tubes. I ended up riding long lefts that day way down from Speedies. Bit like Impossibles, don't know if it even has a name.

That’s really the name….. GLand is a scary place I was there this day in 2008 when this story went down. I managed to dodge waves the whole session :-)
Would they be paddling over the top of each other in these warm ups? Or, since they all know each other, enjoy the wait in line mentality that u sometimes find in remote places (in some spots in the ments I’ve found this - not when I was in gland - numbers just too high, and maybe a more varied and spread out take off spot if gland makes it less likely too
Anyone know or have insights to make a guess

Really it deservedly needs to be included in a natural wonder of the world.. waves all over the world do. Gotta be grateful for that. Gets you dreaming of perfect waves hitting perfect reefs, point breaks, sandbanks all day long. I wonder what else is out in a far away galaxy

There’s plenty mate, spend less time in OZ and more time on the road less travelled to get a taste of it, not enough time in one lifetime IMO.

100%! And don’t worry I have spent plenty of time in far away places surfing pumping waves in solitude or just with a mate or two, a skipper or a captain. I would include Australia in that quota too. Just last week lucked upon surfing 800m + runners with just two other mates - not officially mates but everyone is a mate when your trading almost 1km long runners between just 3 other people. Maybe not quite Indo quality (that would be geographically impossible) but it was hollow, perfectly formed, shoulder high and running endlessly. Sega na leqa. Hope ya getting plenty as always there is always plenty to be had here and abroad for the intrepid
We are one little speck in this gigantic universe and G land and many others throw up this magic, we are certainly the fortunate few

Lovely to watch but good grief I wish it wasn't happening.

just paddling up that reef was enough, amazing.
Man, that was delightful.
