With clean swell and icy wind, Leo, Frederico, and Kanoa sat among the pack at Portugal's premier pointbreak, each nabbing multiple barrels.

Such a sick wave. I spent half a season in that area, and got it pumping. unforgiving, heavy but oh so sweet when you get a good one..
Locals were epic, ripped hard got the best waves but if you behaved you got waves.. if you didn't behave you pretty much got no waves after the infraction...

Waves don't get much better than that. Had it pumping like that in 96. Amazing.

Right size right angle right wind right swell, oh wow so beautiful, one of those waves that keeps staying open, enjoy guys…some very nice surfing too, when it’s that good you can really stop trying and just enjoy surfing- didn’t look like a disrespectful crowd- nice to see

Great neck of the woods for quality surf. Spent time there in 1988 but never saw the reef that good. It was already a renowned and fairly localised wave back then.

I don’t know the spot. As to why they don’t hold the WSL there, they say there are these epic Portuguese waves, but they are often very tide dependent. You can’t hold WSL events at a wave that is maybe great for 3 hours. It has got to be at a spot that is potentially good for 8 continuous hours.

Right on.

Thats why they had to drop Mundaka.

France has some of the biggest tides in the world - as far as surf spots are concerned - yet the WSL doesn't seem concerned there. They'll be lucky to get 5/6 hours at G Land if they get a Speedies swell. If somewhere is going to cook for even 1hour in the contest window they should at least run a heat.
