Watch: Nazare // The Season's First Tow Swell
Overnight, the Naz tow comp was called off when a sea fog blew in and disappeared the lineup. Competitors couldn't see the waves, judges couldn't see the competitors, and the spectators couldn't see either.
"We think for sure that there's swell," said tour manager Jessi Miley-Dyer who had to reply on other senses to intuit it's arrival. "The swell is going to peak tonight so we're keeping the green alert on for tomorrow morning.”
In the meantime, here's Tim Bonython's footage from a few days ago. It was the first tow swell of the season, a little windy, overcast too, but visible.

Great conditions for towing fifty foot waves:
Nice turn and free fall at 3.00. Ugly day.
"had to rely on other senses to intuit it's arrival"
haha. Gold!
great vid and music but needed a change after 2.5 minutes. thanks
It's probably an incredible statement about how far the limits of human potential have reached....but I just get a little bored of it these days. Big wave surfing has gone so far that I scroll through the video to see if there is anything interesting or new.....
nah, it's nazare that's huge but boring, enormous fat crumbly shit wave, its a basic race to the flats and shoulder, no actual surfing of any kind that is enjoyable to watch. Of the tons of footage that is constantly spewed forth of this wave I've seen maybe one wave actually ridden, and now I can't even recall if the guy made it.
