Watch: Craig Anderson // Ceremony
After rePULSE, back to the agenda...
Kai Neville has once again trained his camera at open landscapes in the name of sunglasses and Art.
Between the meaningless scenes lay snippets of Ando surfing, and surfing very well indeed, in fact that tube wrangle at 6:40 is far and away the most crafty thing in the clip.
Comments
can't help but be a total sucker for a Kai Neville edit.
love the Aus-gothic landscapes and low-fi glitch/classical soundy.
Agreed, heavenly on the eyes and ears. Hope you and the family are well brother. Sending you love and happiness x
agreed. Nailed it with the description too
The Nundroo Sofitel must be close to opening its doors.
"that tube wrangle at 6:40 is far and away the most crafty thing in the clip."
Followed immediately by the pensive, blue-steel sunglasses money shot :)
Nice description - a tube wrangle.
I love the Kafka quote at the start.
pretty sure they did turn back.
“From a certain point onward there is no longer any turning back. That is the point that must be reached.”
Pretty sure they’re referencing the point in time that the pro-trips to the desert no longer have to act coy because they’ve blown the joint so wide open that no one could be arsed calling them on it anymore.
Persistence pays off doesn't it
really nice. Craig Anderson has every base covered: turns, style, tubes, airs. And all done effortlessly and minimally.
For somewhere that was anti-cameras for so long Sth Oz has to be one of the most documented areas of Oz apart from the Goldy now.
Fuck he surfs good but
For someone like myself who has only flown over South oz a few times (qantas-sydney to perth fly over the coast) and watched a lot of 90's south oz movies like gripping stuff 2, i still have no idea where a lot of those waves are..One guy has the same name as me and has been filming bodyboarders on secret slabs down there..but good to know most people dont know where a lot of these waves are.
Awesome clip, how's the last bomb?! Faaark! Looked like Nias in reverse!
Boring.
Did it make me want to go or a surf?
Yes.
New sunnies?
No.
Good style and a good bloke
Yeah but can he look all stylish, laidback and shit when it gets big???
9mins in……hold my beer….
Very good. You have to allow yourself to go into dreamy reverie mode.
Wow, the music!
Composed by Brendan Woithe
performed by:
Richard Tognetti (Violin), possibly Australia’s most internationally famous classical music performer.
Cameron Deyell (Guitar)
Brendan Woithe (Keys & Programming)
They don't exactly give the spots away but if you know what rocks you're looking at it's easy to place. Took me 4 years to find that right he surfs, and I've still not told anyone where it is out of respect to a friend who left me some breadcrumbs. It sucks to see these guys put on a pedestal based off of talent alone when they don't respect the place in the same way us mere mortals do. Good video but yeah, every one of these S Oz desolation vids feels like a bit of a kick in the guts.
Agreed, I would call it bittersweet as I love watching how ando surfs those waves but crowds will increase no doubt
At least they are not blowing up the N/W for a change. That place has been destroyed by over exposure.
Very cool.
I totally understand the feeling that spots are being exposed, but agree with groundswell, and in fact I reckon the first line of your post actually sums it up cylinders.
If you don't know the coast already then you're no closer to knowing after watching that or even knowing which coast (unless you follow swellnet comments!). So not much to worry about.
I guess it might inspire a few people who do know to get amongst it on the next swell.
Carton of Coopers Pale next to the tent.
Nice touch and the perfect post surf beverage over there.
and a massive pile of human shit behind the bushes no doubt ...
I haven't a clue where that super heavy left is, and I wouldn't stand a chance of surfing it, but I'm stoked it exists, and so impressed at the ease with which he surfs it.
Really enjoyed the feel of that clip. Great water photography too, and his style is simply unique.
Also enjoyed working all through that country, figured if you put the farm in my Ms' family near the ocean, that would be what it would be like.
Agreed, these posts totally disrespect 99% locals in South Aus. It’s all self aggrandisement and money driven. Yeah, way too cool for me - the sunny’s shot was a cringe!
Do you remember that thread a few months back - after that young Sydney fella dropped a really amateur edit of big Fairy Bower - and he copped some feedback and he arced up and got all defensive.....if you're reading this.....this is what you are up against when some think of slick surf clips!!
Look and learn.
That was mesmerising.
Would love to see them come through with their sunnies and cameras 20 years ago. Agree with what you wrote above Cylinders. Shameful.
Awesome surfer, style for miles.
Why so many slow motion clips, thought it was going to break out for a second, but no
Nice pair of Dame Edna's, mate. The Left north of **** over in **** looks best I reckon
On first watch found it a little overwrought and a bit self indulgent, however on a second viewing found it far more enjoyable, moody and intense. Excellent cinematography capturing CA's inimitable style with the spacious desert backdrop and a haunting soundtrack.
Sometimes its worth having a second look...
Up until the 2min mark I thought I was watching the original Storm Boy.
RIP Mr Percival
Too much slow-mo for my liking.
1/12th speed motion is like dragging nails down a chalkboard...or smashing ur nuts in a car door.
Ive seen council workers move faster than this movie,
Tim bonython would love it!!!!
I give it 2/10...it was better than MAFS.....
Adjust the speed ! ?
Pfft 2/10 LOL wtf .... So what would rate a10? you know what,I'm not even interested,I can't understand you blokes, feigning outrage while simultaneously putting people on the Hunt.
Love the “boy they really go out of their way to publicise spot x in South Australia, just turn down the third road after you get to spot y” comments.
That coastline looks like anywhere between Broome and Port Pirie. By telling us it’s in South Oz you’ve narrowed it down a lot. :-)
