Watch: Two Days in July
Though shorter than '13 Days in October', Tim Bonython's latest clip is every bit as compelling.
Beginning Saturday 11th at Avalon, Tim then films the oversized east swell at Newport, South Narra, and finishes at Manly with waves breaking off both the bommie and under the cliffs at Deadies.
Next day, Tim's on more familiar territory at Cape Solander.
It clocks in at sixteen minutes, but, as Tim told us, "there's too much good footage to make it shorter."
Take it away, people.

Thanks Tim... appreciate the entertainment..
In case you're reading ... I like a little more 'normal' speed - maybe others are the same? and I watch on 1.5 speed to simulate that and overcome what feels like a little more slow motion than my patience accomodatse - perhaps it's a question of personal taste, or perhaps it's about eyeballs and how long you got'em... suppose we've all gotta operate in the world as its is in the first instance
either way - thanks for all ur efforts. Hope its working out for you too
Agree. Slow motion is better used to highlight. It would be pointless and annoying to highlight an entire document for example. Appreciate the edit though. Great footage as always.
Yeah the slow mo is a bit much for an entire movie.
Let me preface this comment with the fact that I am stuck in the Sydney 'lockdown' with two school age kids, haven't surfed in near on two years due (mostly) to slow recovery from knee surgery and am prone to being grumpy and shouting at clouds at the best of times.
But, riddle me this. a) where in the four reasons to leave home does filming surfing fit. b) if it's for 'exercise' and we assume that Tim lives around about mid way between the first days locations (i.e. Manly to Avalon) then he only just stays within the 10km radius of travel, maybe. Cape Solander the next day... WTF! c) if we answered a) with 'Essential Work' then why is the video not behind a pay wall.
Maybe I'm a bit slow but I don't get it. I personally thought his trip down here to the 'bra was iffy, but hey live and let live I thought. This time though, seriously?
same goes for at least one of the surfers in the video.
you need to go surfing more
who me? haven't heard of the delta variant? anybody who is not observing the rules in sydney at the moment is a selfish cunt. not only that, they're breaking the law.

live and let live? live and let die more like it
fuckin a, dude. irresponsible and unwatchable (due to slow mo) - the golden combo!
Hey Braudulio,
So your in lockdown and grumpy because you haven't surfed for 2 years, tell me have you been proactive in the recovery of your knee or are you sitting around projecting your stuff and being the ultimate keyboard warrior ?
It's no riddle mate Tim is actually supplying up to date surfing footage for all the frothers here and abroad which I believe is essential . Knowing the passion and drive the countless hours Tim devotes in producing a top class movie so punters like yourself can endlessly mind surf and inspire to keep the froth all alive and well ! I'm sure I'm not alone in my thoughts
Tim btw comes from Avalon was filming by himself if you want to get particular . So mate instead of having a whinge about somebody supplying a essential surf service that entertains 10's of thousands of punters, how about getting on the floor do those exercises that your physio had given you to improve your knee stop your whinging on get on with it ? Before you get all pent up have a think what your actually doing ? You can cry poor me but hey no one is listening and don't think your a pioneer in the recovery stakes I walked on crutches for over a total of 15 months with 2 broken legs so get on with it!!
jesus there's some dense cunts out there and you're one.
Yes, Slamb can fuck right off - it's fucksticks like slamb who aren't taking it seriously and now we have CoSyd-19 in Victoria.
Gee thanks for the rehab tips there slamb. And yes I'm grumpy but let's face it this is not about me at all. An error my part to start my comment that way but was hoping to blunt the edge.
So going straight to the cut, what it's about is a disregard for lockdown. Calling what Tim does essential is reaching, plenty of content coming from other parts of the country and world if you're that desperate for new content.
But people will die if they don't specifically watch Tim's surf clips!
"supplying a essential surf service".....get fucked!!
Yeh I'm totally over the slow mo too. We can handle the speed!
Ollie Dousset, take a bow.
"Tim is actually supplying up to date surfing footage for all the frothers here and abroad which I believe is essential ."
haha
Being a victorian - now threatened with lockdown cause some removalists decided they were somehow above the law and spread Covid through our state - I am with the lockdown voices here. No babies are going to die if wave starved surfers dont get new footage - but every single person who breaks the lockdown and does trips up and down the coast is putting people, lives and businesses at risk.
Just stay home FFS.... not that bloody complicated.
I really liked it. Perhaps the strong point of Mr Bonython’s work is his ability to capture the beauty of the breaks. Some of the shots in this short were magnified. Even the very last image was powerful in that it portrayed just how degraded the environment around Botany Bay has become in under 250 years.
It’s good to see punters having a go, all their successes and foibles. The successes despite the foibles! There’s enough high performance gear around to wallpaper the world ten times over, so a bit of regular crew dealing with the imperfections of testing waves is entertaining.
Ollie Douset needs a standing ovation, as does Archie Elliot. Robbie France got a screamer too. Well done and congratulations gentlemen.
Even the 'full speed' clip was full of slow mo, his clips are just unwatchable shit, no longer view any of them including this one. All the best though Tim I hope you and yours are healthy and happy.
Aside from aesthetic - I'm no longer going to view his stuff until he stops breaking the f#@%$ law and thinking he can drive around Sydney during a global pandemic lockdown. Were heading back into lockdown in Vicco because of people like him who think the rules dont apply.
People dont like politicians speaking to them like their children - but when this shit happens...it makes sense. How....hard....can...it....be...to...understand....
Staaaayyyy....aaaattttt.....hooooommmmeeeee. People get pinged on FB for stuff like this - wouldn't take the police very long to watch his video and then give him a call. Not very smart!
Need to include Matt Dunsmore in that category, it would seem.
A young film maker on this site got absolutely torn apart for using slow slow motion in his dead mans clip.....just saying.
Excellent.
There’s the very hint of that trickling in here in the form of Covid refugees but they’ve yet to hit the critical mass necessary to inflict the broad scale cultural evisceration they’re kind is bred for.
Range Rovers ahoy.
Thanks gold - can’t believe I haven’t seen it before. Hard hitting stuff. Raw. Sadly the truth.
That’s gold! Could easily suit a few WA ‘burbs too…..
Loved the opening with Nth Av. Beautiful waves and great morning light.
Tim obviously frequents Pete Evens group chat.
I loved every second Mr Bonython.
A masterpiece absolute...
Use of natural lighting sucker punched me inwards. Fluid music, change of scenery, timing. I am an expert... dreamer. Time... to soak in those many, many subtle nuances within each second I appreciate and enjoy very much over and over again.
A special weekend captured through your lens Mr Bonython. Sensational stuff!
That was sick
I would recommend he does his intro with a voice over rather than the head shot. Guys our vintage are a bit too sun-blasted and windblown for close-ups Tim. Scares the kids.
If the kids are gonna get scared by some dude's weatherbeaten face then they're gonna need some serious counselling after watching Cape Solander. The place is the stuff of nightmares haha!
Which part of lockdown do inconsiderate, irresponsible fuckwits not understand!
Stay at home rules: Greater Sydney
You must stay home. Only leave your home if you have a reasonable excuse.
Right now, you are only permitted to leave your home for four reasons:
1/ essential shopping for groceries or medicines;
2/ outdoor exercise or recreation in groups of no more than two people within your home LGA or within 10km of your house;
3/ for compassionate reasons or caregiving;
4/ or for essential work or study if you are unable to do so from home.
Yeah I have to drive from Avalon more than 10K's to film a surf session....yeah I have to drive from northern beaches more than 10k'ms to have a surf.......fuckwits who care only about themselves....if the shoe fits own it!!!!!
Here’s a question: I’m not in Sydney so I’ve got no idea, but exactly what is considered essential work? I know a gardener still going to work and I’ve heard florists are still working. I know people are doing renovations. So why wouldn’t surf photographer qualify?
It's no doubt a "grey area" which no one seems to want to define absolutely...perhaps I'm being overly harsh in my assessment but my opinion and it's only my opinion is that filming a surf session is nothing essential especially considering current circumstances and how easily this virus can be transmitted.
There is a list on government websites that lists essential providers and one of those providers on the list is a "bottle shop"......now I don't drink (I did a long time ago though) and I consider it sad that alcohol is considered an essential commodity/need in society when in reality nothing good can ever come out of the consumption of alcohol/drugs...they contribute nothing of real value that will benefit society as a whole or individuals on a personal level....again my opinion. So as individuals we have to make decisions that we consider relevant to time, place and circumstance and those decisions and there relevant actions will be determined by what values we as individuals deem important and beneficial not only to ourselves but to others persons wellbeing as well.....being considerate of others is a start during these trying times so I just look at it like I have covid and I don't want to pass it on to others so I'm trying to follow the basic guidelines as they stand at the moment.
As an outsider it seems like it’s any work essential for keeping a roof over your head and food on the table. The Bin Chook doesn’t want to cap everyone in the knees, particular her donors, so she’s just said “Yeah, Nah, whatever , just don’t make a cnt of yourselves.”
Seems to work for the most part without being too draconian that crew are necking themselves?
Thats the bloody trouble....she needs to make it clear to the more narcissistic ones out there.
Essential to SOCIETY....not essential to the individual. Working and money is essential to everyone. But in this case its not about the individual anymore - its about a sacrifice for the common good.
Thats the whole freaking point of the COMMON GOOD. Personal gain has to be put aside. Seems some just dont get the freaking point of putting personal desires aside for others.
Essential to OTHERS....not yourself. Pretty simple when you apply that criteria.
The recent Bra sessions were also filmed under stay-the-fuck-at-home conditions.
Your NSW Premier when pressed on essential work:
"That's why we rely on common sense (and why) we rely on people to respect the intent of the health orders as well as the letter of the health orders."
Not very complicated.
Will anybody suffer or die if I fail to turn up to work? Will there be a grave societal impact of me failing to work?

brazen!
Regarding Syd 'lockdown' . . . Mate of mine was surfing his local with his young fella . Heading home the Police were in the carpark getting images of the 30 or so cars parked . So this is in a National Park . He asked what the go was and the Officer told him if the rego was outside the 10 kilometer radius , the owner was going to get a $ 1000 dollar State Revenue love letter .
When they got to the Park entrance , the Highway Patrol were stopping cars and having a brief chat .
Its not perfect people , its a fucking Pandemic ! Just try to do the best you can . I as so many have lost income , missed great waves and been driven crazy by local covid Kooks .
Everyone take a fucking panadol.
My wife has auto immune issues, we are being extra safe ... but don't get on your internet trolling, moral high horse, by coming hard at Tim.B. You're all probably doing the same thing to some degree. No ones perfect.
Amazing effort TB puts into providing us entertainment.
Thanks.
I trust all whingers have had at least 1 jab?!
Maybe direct your frustration at a Govt that has failed to get a cohesive program and message across after so much time.
Fuck all of them!!
I like the committed paddle drop in on the tow in, pity he did achieve his interference.
The slo mo worked for those solander paddle ins. Awesome weight transfer to the tail on the drop to full throttle.
I miss those 2 days per year when the surf is good on the northern beaches.
