Watch: Teahupoo after lockdown
Just two days out of a two month lockdown, Tahitian locals embraced the first swell after the COVID restrictions. The downtime having done little to dull their reflexes.
And with the rest of the world confined to their own borders, it was a locals only affair at Teahupoo.
The last wave, in case you're wondering, is ridden by Gilbert Teave, just fourteen-years old but lives on Teahupoo's doorstep.

Great waves...big lad for 14! Got some BALLS!!
Hows that drop at 2:17? Man! Good to see the locals getting some, having fun and the pure stoke on making it. Uplifting.
and he did it easy too....
That is sheer mastery. A sublime mix of insane talent and board design artistry. How does a board hold a rail there?? Like he has horizontal stabilisers on his rails. Incredible that you can stand on a 6 foot platform of foam, sliding sideways, as thousands of litres of water cascade over your head and detonate in tons of pressure per square inch....
Its the kinds of vision that makes you push your own surfing the next time youre at you local beachy taking off late. Love it.
Unreal.
Whats with the "hold my balls" claim? God knows I'd be excited to make it out alive...but holding your balls is a little contrived....
never been a big fan of any claim other than that can't-hold-it-in sheer unbridled "thank god I'm alive" exultation. Or of course those sneaky little fist pumps you see a micro-grom do when they land their first reo.
How much stoke was had on this day!!...... its kinda missing from the pro/insta/hero clips that we see so much of..... something genuine vs something financial?? Covid keeps on giving.
As Oscar Wilde said 'The only thing better than claiming is not to claim.'

How good is that wave with such clean conditions and the sun shining.
Name of tune/band pls?
I'm too old to watch this all the way through. My heart is still pumping wildly. Any more and I'll end up in ICU. How do these young men do it? (I think I know why ... because they can?)
that was very up lifting. big clean waves late take offs made my day
