After four events and four separate winners the Bacardi Surf Tour Champion will be decided at the fifth and final event this Sunday at Sydney’s Curl Curl Beach.

The Hemingway’s Manly Pro will see the top five surfers on the Ratings take on another mixed bag of competitors, with previous results on the Tour suggesting anything is possible on the day.

Blake Thornton, Shane Campbell, Dayyan Neve and Nic Squiers have all had wins on the Tour with Squiers going into the final event with a 280-point lead ahead of Neve after each surfers best three results. Thornton is 425 points behind Squiers with Bondi’s Perth Standlick and Avoca’s Dane Atcheson mathematically still in the hunt to win the Title but need results to go their way.

Bacardi Surf Tour leader Nic Squiers will be the man to beat

With $2500 being awarded to the Tour Champion the situation at the top of the ratings is tight going into the final event. If Squiers makes the Man on Man Final he cannot be beaten, if he loses in the Semi Finals, Neve and Thornton would need to win the event to claim the $2500. A Quarter Final finish or earlier for Squiers would really open the door for Neve and Thornton as well as bringing Standlick and Atcheson into the equation.

“I’m feeling really good going into the final event at Curl Curl this weekend,” said Squiers. “It’s always fun coming into the last event when there’s a load of scenario’s that can play out. I’ve got my fingers crossed for some great conditions so we all get a chance to drop some good scores and have a great event to sign out the series.”

Former WCT surfer Dayyan Neve likes his chances going into the final event, “I haven’t been surfing much lately but I have been eating and drinking healthy,” said Neve. “I've put on four kilos of muscle in the last few months for big power turns, Curl Curl is one of my favourite beaches so I should win easy.”

Squiers and Neve will also have to contend with Curl Curl locals Matt Bemrose and Harley Ross. Curl Curl can be a tricky place to surf at times with wave selection crucial, Bemrose turned back the clock in the first event of the Tour at Cronulla finishing fourth in solid overhead conditions. Eighteen-year-old Ross might be the dark horse of the event after recently posting a fourth place finish at the ISA World Junior Championships at Portugal, as well as reaching the Semi Finals in the Stowaway Pro at Freshwater Beach in September.

The Hemingway’s Manly Pro winner will receive $1000 as well as prizes from Bacardi, G-Shock and Swellnet. The surfer with the highest individual wave score will win the G-Shock Wave of the Day taking home a $900 G-Shock.

Straight after the Man on Man Final competitors and members of Queenscliff, North Steyne and Curl Curl Boardriders will attend the Bacardi After Party at Hemingway’s Manly for the crowning of the Inaugural Bacardi Surf Tour Champion. Each of the five events on the Bacardi Surf Tour carry ratings points with the overall tour winner being decided on each surfer’s best four results. The tour winner will receive $2500 and prizes from Bacardi, G-Shock and Swellnet.
