(Coolangatta, QLD - Friday, 2 April 2010): The Geared Pro Junior was officially launched in-front of dignitaries and surfing luminary at North Cronulla yesterday, with competition ready to kick-off on Easter Saturday.

As the seventh stop on the prestigious ASP Australasian Pro Junior Series, the Geared Pro Junior will light up the Easter long-weekend with amazing surfing and entertainment taking place at North Cronulla

Opened by Minster for Roads and Transport, Mr David Campbell, this event is much more than a surfing competition.

"Sadly, we know speeding is the major cause of death and injury on our roads and speeding contributes to more than 40 per cent of fatal crashes involving young people aged 17-25 years," he said.

"This partnership helps us reach young drivers and young people thinking about learning to drive and introduce them to safe driving practices as well as helpful hints on licencing, road trip holidays, buying and selling a car, DIY and car maintenance."

Geared.com.au is an online magazine aimed at helping young people get their licence and become safe and competent drivers, which has everything young people need to know about getting their NSW driver licence and keeping it.

"During the five days of the competition there will also be Slow Down Pledge pods for people to take an oath against getting into a car with a speeding driver," Mr Cambpell added.

"These pods will be available at Cronulla and we encourage everyone to come down and take the pledge," he stated.

Also of interest is the great swell forecast which is sure to provide an amazing canvas for some of the world's best. Swellnet's Craig Brokensha is confident of excellent conditions for the event.

"The weekend surf forecast is looking great for Cronulla," he said. "We currently have a small but strengthening low pressure system sitting off the coast which should move slowly to the E/NE over the coming days. This should open up the Cronulla beaches to a medium sized S/SE swell on Saturday in the 4-5ft range, with Sunday offering slightly larger 4-6ft sets."
