The App

It's still coming along. We've got a long list of development items right now, and while this is close to the top, we still don't quite have an ETA yet. Frustrating I know.. but trust me, no-one wants the App more than all of the Swellnet staff (we're all on iOS devices).

Why do you need an app for an iphone when you can just get onto the website, the cameras work fine on an iphone?

Coastalwatch needed an app for android as there cameras won't work on androids without it but the iphone app again is not needed.

What will be the advantage of the app over simply using safari to get onto the actual site?

Couple of reasons - firstly, an App is a quicker way to access Swellnet content rather than going through a browser and typing the address or choosing from bookmarks.

Secondly, Apps allow you to build unique functionality within each smartphone that is otherwise unavailable to a general browser.

And thirdly, it's another way for our business to make money. Standard advertising on mobile websites doesn't generate very much money at all (due to the proliferation of cheap advertising services like Google Ads), so an App will allow us to pitch integrated sponsorship opportunities to bigger advertising clients. The one question we get asked regularly by advertisers is "Do you have an App?", so as a media business it's simply a box we have to tick.

I really would like to see an app for iPhone. Agree it would be much more convenient than accessing through safari.

Launch date for the App is being confirmed in the next week or so (finally received sign off for launch sponsor). Will have more details soon.
