The MTB Thread
Andys above vid.......i was scared watching that, still feeling nauseous.......from those cliff trails......... must be a lot of casualties and it seems to have a lot in common with wing suit jumping......short lifespan
Stus vid on Jack Moir was very entertaining.........goes alright in the water too....good stuff
My son and his mates finished the gap jump. 9 metres from the lip over the gap to landing, on a steep trail with about 2 metres of margin between a tuckeroo glade, into a steep berm.
If we go a month without the ambulance paying a visit it'll be a miracle.
Jesus that’s huge
Time to get the old Malvern Star out and give it a crack Freeride. Show those young un's how it's done. :)
Linking this topic to the recent “botany “ posts on snakes appearing with the warmer weather up north ….. there’s a nearby ParksVic conservation reserve here on the MP that allows mtbing, full of water and therefore full of snakes. I kid you not last summer I just missed being bitten by tiger snakes on 3 separate occasions including one where I came within an inch of running over its head and another occasion, that still freaks me out just thinking about it, when a 2 metre+ as thick as my wrist tiger was fully flexed ready to strike as I road past it. All 3 snakes were so well camouflaged grey greens didn’t see them until I was next to them. The local ParksVic ranger insists snakes don’t really hibernate as they may take advantage of any sunny day regardless of the season!

GuySmiley. That’s true and correct. This Winter at Lake Modewarre in Vic, two of our field naturalists members encountered a Lowland Copperhead Snake actively moving about on a sunny 11c day. AW
Gday AW, yes very true, from what I’ve seen and been told by rangers Copperheads don’t hibernate, they are out all year round and even in the high country. Fortunately they are docile unless provoked.

One of the old boys saw him filming and told him not to say where it is. To his credit he didn't name it.
Credit where credit’s due. So much much, well ‘info’ in that ‘dream’ post.
Member who sticks cameras on and enthusiastically directs people to surfbreaks all over the planet, because? ‘Darwinian Capitilism’ in full flight. Fire up the mind, churn out believable answers. Which one sounds best?
Even when locals, even supposedly ‘freeriders’, complain and threaten all sorts of action, ‘woodworking’ member suddenly claims, ‘protecting secret mountain bike trails’ from cashing in ‘vlogger’.
Self assessed ‘naytcha boy’ member simultaneously claims ‘woodwork’. Claims brilliantly turning trees into something that he considers actually, truly worthwhile, ‘berms’. Joni Mitchell throws up, and releases new hit single, ‘Tree paradise, put up a bike track’.
‘Hey lets go for a walk in nature, take the kids and teach them about nature’.
Family splattered by splattered, snapped like pretzel, secret, sudden exercise, glute lurvin’ specialist, ‘secret’, ‘local’, ‘scientific’, ‘naytcha boyz’, ‘berms’ club members. Members clad in hi tec padded rashies and dong bonnets, running amok on careening, crashing metal, but natural machinery, whilst the family was innocently walking in public nature park.
‘We didn’t see anything, coz we were busy saving the environment and checking out southern highland, lesser speckled, beak snouted, multi crested, diurnal berm gnats, (gnatis bermiatis), and that family just got in the way. By the way, funny how people don’t notice that they shouldn’t have even been there exposing the place and disturbing gnatis burmiatis anyway, they were just about to nest in our natural bikes, plus its a secret. IMHO they should have had their padded rashies and dong bonnets on.’
Glorious validation moments.
‘See, It could’ve happened to anyone, he crashed too!’ ‘And plus he reckons’.
‘See!’
‘SEE I AM NOT SO…!’
Carry on swillnuttin’.
Lifty?
He's baaaack.
Roid rage ;)
I had a laugh at that last post. Channeling TBB? And Schultz clip! Thought it pretty good. No opinion on the subject though, as others might.

Stupe!
well uplift was pretty much on the money when talking about twin fins it seems .....seeing as every man and his dog has one these dayz
Always got a soft spot for Lifty because he helped me so much with the back rehab.
Ignoring Uplift’s colourful turn of phrase there’s a certain amount of irony in the primary point he’s making, got me laughing it did. Further, without knowing any detail about the land* that mtb track is on his other points may also be valid (note: I’m not trying to be antagonistic here but an objective observer of similar (but illegal) use in a local designated conservation reserve home to endangered species along with graffitiing of buildings etc).
* who owns it, it’s conservation status, current and historical use and by whom etc
I don’t need/expect a reply here I’m more pondering out aloud :)
Cheers Stu
Damn that was a good uppy rant. Almost felt like the old days.
These bikes take such a hammering , the drone footage is amazing, definitely not my sport but exciting to watch. https://www.facebook.com/reel/289052093912294
Jackson absolutely crushed it and at, what, 18 or 19 years old? Only racer to win two races in 2023, admist injury and illness as well. A true phenom.
Hoping Amaury Pierron (probably my favourite rider) is back for the 2024 season and at full pace. Pierron reminds me of a younger Sam Hill - he knows only one speed and that is absolutely flat strap, consequences be damned. Would be interesting to see how Goldstone goes against a hungry Pierron. They're two of the fastest riders in the modern era, though you'd have to include Loic Bruni in there as well.
France and Canada are pumping out some of the fastest riders the world has ever seen.
Rampage coming up soon. Cue debates on freeride vs slopestyle.
.^^^. FMD that was a pretty epic jump.

Small margin for error. Astounding.

Real showman too. Willing to whip and scrub through practice runs and put on a show for the punters. Some big years ahead for him.
Thoughts on the new coverage? I got a GCN subscription and thought it was good. Rob Warner maybe a loss but the new pair (Rick and Cedric?) did unreal, especially when people like Aaron Gwin were in the booth.
I've only been watching the highlights so feel somewhat unqualified to comment other than to say it doesn't feel the same without Rob. Just backing up a bit, having Aaron Gwin in the booth was good - he added a little much needed energy to the broadcast.
Lots of discussion about the coverage of the enduro events online. Be interesting to see what happens next year. FWIW, I like the idea of reseeding before the last stage and running it as a mini DH event. For a discipline that's inherently difficult to cover, I think it would make for a significant improvement.

Holy shit... hectic story. Check it out if you're a fan.
Course preview of Maydena Hardline
Amaury Pierron comes back from a broken neck to win at Val di Sole, the toughest track of the year, by a full 4.4 seconds. Incredible
^ fkn epic!! (that scream at the end should be bottled)
AP put nearly 6.5 seconds into the next fastest rider at Les Gets - the biggest winning margin in over 12 years or something silly like that. Reminiscent of some of Sam Hill's runs. What a truly spectacular comeback - that run will go down in history.
I'm curious about his bike, with its chromoly chainstays
Insane flow state
I am sure way faster and steeper than anyone could imagine (unless you’ve seen it / ridden it)!

Holy Christ that was fucking mental! I was holding my breath the whole way. Fuck!
Around 2:37 he is fucking flying…
I've been meaning to start a mountain biking thread for a while and now is as good a time as any.
