Southern Tasmania Forecast (issued Friday 24th January)

Best Days: Saturday morning in protected spots, Sunday morning

Recap

Wednesday's fun swell eased back quickly overnight, with smaller but still but 1-2ft waves breaking across Clifton yesterday. Today the surf is back to a tiny 0.5-1ft with favourable winds ahead of an onshore change.

This weekend (Jan 25 -26 onwards)

Tomorrow's SW groundswell has been upgraded with the polar front pushing across us this afternoon and evening being stronger than forecast on Wednesday. A fetch of gale to severe-gale SW winds will now be aimed in our swell window (pictured right), generating a good 3ft of SW groundswell for tomorrow morning.

Winds should tend W'ly early tomorrow morning but only for a short period before reverting back to the SW.

The swell should ease during the afternoon and further Sunday as winds swing offshore from the NW.

Next week onwards (Jan 17 onwards)

Next week won't see any major size across the coast, but a couple of long-range W/SW groundswell pulses are expected. The best one is due to arrive Friday and offer inconsistent 1-2ft sets across Clifton under N'ly tending E/NE winds. This will favour more exposed locations, but check back here on Monday for the latest on this.
