Here's a picture of a nicely cradled low off SEQ, Davo...... Note the high just west of South island NZ, creating a nice little squeezed fetch on the south side of the low...... Pumping at burliegh......
Also, as Ben often points out, the direction the cyclone or low moves is crucial.... Lets just say Pam was heading southwest straight at the goldy, maaaaaaate.... Just imagine a bulldozer pushing through sand.... Yeah, you're gonna get some sand spilling off the side, but right in front of bulldozer is full on.... That's pretty simplified, and not exactly scientifically correct, but it's close enough.... lol

From Southey's previous mind boggling posts on weather , I'm beginning to feel there is more to just surface pressures where upper atmospheres like jet streams etc have a huge effect...?
All these configurations of various weather maps kind of say a bigger picture than what people can't appreciate...? Big jigsaw puzzle that even the worlds biggest computer models at the moment can't comprehend......
