I'm glad that Trump is putting fentanyl discussion into the spotlight. He's doing it in this weird way with tariff threats, and I really can't tell if this will be successful or not. But regardless of that, this is a serious issue. I don't know how many people from here visited the US recently and witnessed the fentanyl crisis with their own eyes. Yes, you can watch videos online, but it hits very differently when you see it. I did visit and I did make an effort of walking through some really shit areas. Trust me, it's soul shattering. This drug is something else, it disfigures human body in a terrible way. Humans look like zombies, completely disconnected from the area they are in. Something needs to be done; the current situation is unsustainable.

Funny but not funny is how market demand increases the flow of fentanyl into the US, mainly driven by US importers. Seems the US border entry inspectors are just as useless as the border exit inspectors at the source of shipping. Trump blames Mexico and China for the problem when the demand is internal. Also funny but not funny is that 70%-90% of Mexico’s firearms are smuggled in from the USA, but maga see this as a good thing as it supports the gun manufacturers who donate donate donate to various gun supporting politicians.

@flollo,
I agree it was heartening to hear an American President specifically refer to fentanyl, even if it was Trump, and to identify the precursor supplier (China) as well as the Mexicans.
How tariffs on goods will counter it however remains to be seen.
The danger for us here is that the Narco Cartels see us as a massive cash cow now, they get the best return from coke here than anywhere in the world, and my fear would be that the supply would just get diverted here instead.
We've only had a small number of those deaths where a group of people are all found dead from it being laced into what they thought was coke, why a dealer would cut coke with fentanyl is beyond me, but there have been a plague of such incidents in the US, never mind the impact it has had on junkies, and American cities. Devastating.

The cartels are using customised narco subs to ship coke here by the tonnage now, the Colombian authorities just seized some of them this week. A ton of fentanyl would be enough to kill our whole population probably.

It took a long time for meth to become a thing here, I remember reading about the problems it caused in the US, in Hawaii and SE Asia a decade or more before it became a problem here, it wasn't a thing here then suddenly it was, devastating drug and drug habit, and I fear the same may end up happening with fentanyl here.

Mind you a month or so ago I got sent down to Victoria St. in Richmond, Melb., a well known heroin hot spot, by my brother to buy a carton of black market cigarettes for him ($10 a pack with a free lighter, great policy that one, cigarettes haven't been so cheap since the 80's) and parts of the street resembled the streets of Philadelphia (my favorite Springsteen song btw). Junkies buckled over and street mayhem. with the new gen. Richmond gentrified yuppies lining up for their Sunday brunches at the Viet, pho/coffee shops looking on horrified.

We are ripe for that devastating drug here.
So kudos to Trump for trying to do something about it.
I would prefer the US just went "fuck it" and sent in the marines and USAF to eliminate all the cartels the Mexicans seem unable or unwilling to, and do it again when the snakes grow more heads, that's a "war on drugs" in my book. Don't fuck around with tariffs or diplomacy, bullets and bombs and let the Mexican politicians shriek all they want, it's a real and present danger killing Americans in large numbers.

I would make a shit politician or diplomat obviously. But Mexico is basically a narco state, a great country, great people, great waves, great culture, great food but a blight because they haven't been able to stop the cartels, or the fentanyl.
Colombia has at least made progress in that regard, although it still produces the bulk of the world's cocaine.
As for China, fentanyl needs to be put front and center to them too. At least Trump is saying these things to them too. How successful he is we will see.
And I wonder whether we stockpile the coke here or whether even that commodity is on a "just in time" supply chain too. I bet it's probably an exception to that rule.

I find it really interesting to have watched Rogan change his political mindset go from being pro Democrat voter had Bernie Sanders on the show supported Obama, went through a phase of just hating both Trump and Hillary then Biden, and now supporting Trump.

Changing your mind though is important, being aware that political parties have also changed greatly over time is important, instead of just voting based on a name.

I think for a lot of people Covid really changed peoples political and social perspectives, so much trust was lost, so much lies were exposed, media etc came after Rogan for having people on with different views on the vaccine's (some very qualified) or the source of covid* or his views on ivermectin.

* Remember when the lab leak theory was seen as fringe even a conspiracy theory.

When Rogan took ivermectin(only one part of his treatment's) it was reported by much of the media as a drug for horses, even though it was/is a drug widely used for humans.

It wasn't so much framed here in Australia as a left vs right thing (thank you Byron Bay anti vaxer capital of Australia ) but in the USA it really was.

As a conservative that had no issue with the vaccine it was really interesting to watch it all, even here those on the left like Supa was obsessed with ivermectin, Southern raw passionate against the vax even attending rallies, others with no real political home like Bureligh against the whole thing.

After it was all over here in Australia where it was less right vs left everyone fell back into their political homes, but in the USA i think it changed things more, people didn't forget how they were treated or demonised for their views and many political realignments happened, i think for Rogan this was a big factor in where he sits now.

While Im surprised it hasn't been talked about in a Rogan episode yet and i still think he will at some stage, he also has the complete right to not make a public comment on it, or anything else.

Free speech is just as much about having the right not to say something, than it is to say something.

^^ blah blah blah, that's a mighty fine opinion piece there @info, but the reason Klitschko wants to appear on Rogan is because he has been talking about the Russia-Ukraine war on his program and Klitschko believes, rightly or wrongly, that Rogan is repeating Russian propaganda. Klitschko wants to appear on the show as a "right of reply" if you like which is a fundamental tenet of the right (and responsibilities) of/for free speech. Sure he can refuse or delay the request but the longer it goes on the longer it looks like Rogan isn't what he proclaims to be!
