Kochie...slow down, comrade. You spat that out like a flaming hot-rock...going by the funky grammar and spelling and such. Too much 'foily'?

Bernie pushes what? He's the only factor keeping Clinton honest re: trade deals at the mo. I'd trust her as far as I could stretch out the Donald's comb-over though. As for the Donald? His lies make Abbott look like a Jesuit choir-boy. Erm, just don't mention Pell...or Nestor.

Blowie. You're a card. Didn't we have this convo threads ago AND I ASKED YOU WHAT YOU THOUGHT 'GLOBALISATION' WAS? Slipped the memory?

Maybe, for the better, as you can now leave out all the 'nasty' racialist baggage. Multi-culturalism this, and Muslim that. And other tacked-on of late Hanson-isms.

Let's not go there again, huh? Unless you want me to?

Still no discussion worthy: Sanders v Trump? How would've that 'split' the nation's voters?

And what are the implications for a future election here? Labor watched and learned? What have the LNP got out of it all??

sanders v trump I'd say sanders by a mile

I wouldn't have said that before, ya know..sanders the socialist in the U S of A and all that, but trump has proved himself so hopeless and ugly sanders would shoe it in

which shows just how much the democrats have fucked this up...karma perhaps?

labor lnp here?

they've learnt nothing, just like the democrats in US they are all still in denial about the public's rejection of the great liberal internationalists dream

Bangladeshi sweatshops? Fish n chip shops? Knocking shops?

What utter utter drivel.

The 3rd world? Who gives a shit! If they don't want to fix their own problems stuff em. I don't give two hoots what happens in those places. And care even less for the scum that inhabit those places and the lack of guts they have in changing their own circumstances other than to jump on a boat or plane to live off the wealth our WHITE GUYS CREATED!

Feck me you guys are suicidal and have no pride in your own country or have an ability to even think how is it you can write this shittolla? You are very fortunate that you aint sitting down in a sweatshop making me my next pair of nikes! And hurry up about it!

Sanders v Trump, now there's a non issue. Sanders is there for you tt, let's call him a safe space ey. Once all you socialists settle down and stop the "give us free shit" chants, Sanders will roll over and toss you all to Clinton. Oh look, just happened, right there in the shallows while you were out in the deeper water. The messiah Michael Moore just put out a cover of the same tune, just in case you missed bernie's version.

Pell? I thought you were gonna say commet ping pong or Madeleine McCann there for a minute, can you loan us some of your foil

Speaking of yooth, and generations...

It's all the boomers fault

Not literally, just inadvertently, being a bit overly idealistic and stuff.... and just maybe a bit dumb...

".... - as the generation that failed to live up to it's lofty ideals, but still held fast to it's sense of superiority."

David Brooks (conservative columnist at the New York Times) writes about the election and raises the same points Zen did. I can actually understand and recognise some of them after reading this but others I still don't get. Anyway, a good read even though it's focused on American politics. And if you're interested, they're giving free access to the nyt for the next couple of days.

And from the other side of the political coin, though also an anti trump piece, Harry Belafonte writes about the social gains we've been talking about , that have perhaps come at the cost of the formerly privileged losing their undeserved status above all others, which are there to be lost in his view.

http://mobile.nytimes.com/2016/11/07/opinion/campaign-stops/harry-belafo...

More pertinent to this thread, trump's desire to curb free speech (change llibel laws to sue journos who write stuff he doesn't like) is remarkably scary. Anyway enough US politics, night all.

No Tones it has just started, now with so many Trump supporters wanting to wreck the system don't you think a good start would be to (1.) ban all paid political lobbyist in Washington (and here); (2.) end the gerrymanders in America that see Democrats get up to 60% of the local state vote but end up with only 15-20% of the Senators for that state; and (3.) end the practice of banning for life (sounds familiar doesn't it) convicted criminals from voting in elections that allow most southern states to be safe Replication states.

When Trump said the election is rigged he was speaking the truth but not in the way he thought. You see when the right lose by the rules they change the rules to suit themselves .... this is being mirrored here in so many ways.

Yes lets wreck the joint by giving each side of politics a fair and equal 50 / 50 chance .... a very good start

you're kidding yourself tonybarber, this is just the beginning. no matter who wins we're basically locked into a four year election period from tomorrow as both sides go hard

thankfully the press are getting their heads back in order and ffinally realising what's going on. rather than the slur contest we've had they've realised trump is on to something. something that crosses left right up down class colour.

the scary thing is trump could still actually win this thing without the support of his own party. pretty amazing really, with half of his own party voting against itself and he's still in the race. inconceivable really

that's a lot of unity in this divided time

Sypkan, according to Hartcher (Fairfax) - The (Reserve bank) governor, Philip Lowe, said last week that the advent of a Trump presidency would be a shock to global markets and “wouldn’t be as benign” as the market response to Brexit. He said the central bank had no “Trump plan” but did have a “generic plan” for responding to shocks.

A 'shock' but seems not a big 'shock'.

talkingturkey's picture
talkingturkey's picture
talkingturkey Wednesday, 9 Nov 2016 at 12:21pm

Actually, interesting etymology round the word.

"Kaput originated with a card game called piquet that has been popular in France for centuries. French players originally used the term "capot" to describe both big winners and big losers. To win all twelve tricks in a hand was called "faire capot" ("to make capot"), but to lose them all was known as "être capot" ("to be capot"). German speakers adopted "capot," but respelled it "kaputt," and used it only for losers. When English speakers borrowed the word from German, they started using "kaput" for things that were broken, useless, or destroyed."

So, Kaputt, I mean Kochie, ihr Trumpf ist kaput, ja?

The Tones is red hot on Triggs and the HRC and 18C while ignoring in the Bolt case he got his facts wrong, the HRC hears over 20,000 cases a year and all we hear about is 3 white QUT students with big mouths supported on the downlow by conservatives and that cartoon case which will be thrown out on 18D and the fact that the HRC cannot force the "warring parties" into conciliation meaning if one side wants to force a point ........ eeeerrrrr lets say 3 white prig students, the HRC has no say or role or control over it going to court ........

Is this the same sort of parallel universe of reality that Brandis operates in when he misled parliament about the now former Solicitor General?

Oh by the way Tones, Triggs has been asking for changes to the law around these extreme cases for sometime without a response from Brandis (busy bullshitting to parliament) but lets not let the truth get in the way of your bullshit good story.

Got news for you Tones, Triggs will have to be blasted out, she aren't going anywhere so you will have to hold off on the premature elation
