Q. If a protective cap meets ANSI Z89.1 Class E, does it also meet Classes C and G?

A: Yes.

Q
. What is the difference between ANSI Z89.1 Type 1 and Type 2 protective cap standards?
A: Type 1 caps provide only crown and limited periphery protection.
(E-1, E-2, P-2). Type 2 provides crown and periphery (lateral) protection. (SE-2)

Q. Does OSHA allow protective caps to be worn backwards?
A: Contrary to popular belief, OSHA allows protective caps to be worn in the reverse position as long as the manufacturer has the caps tested to current ANSI standards in that position. Wearing a cap in the reverse position is the best way to combine a cap with a welding helmet, faceshield or safety mask because it positions the face and eye equipment as close to the face as possible. (See cap section in Fibre-Metal catalog.)
